Telkom ups its bid for Cell C

I say this will be a good thing.

Telkom can hopefully fix CellC and we can get some real competition for Vodacom now that MTN has basically taken themselves out of the race.

Hopefully it can be Cell C's sales channels using Telkom's network...That will be super.

Will be interesting to watch this unfold. Telkom will get a massive network footprint almost instantaniously mixed in with their OK'is coverage in denselyl populated areas so national coverage and extra capacity for the urban areas where Cell C have failed dismally. Also Cell C have got a national system of stores that Telkom can tap into. Interesting indeed.

Not sure if this is the experience of others but I have had fantastic support from Telkom Mobile, and find their sales channels better than Cell C.

Myself, I also have high hopes for a merger between these two. TBH I have no problems or quibbles with CellC, except when in the boondocks.

Will they keep the brands separate, or will they merge CellC into 8ta/TM? Will Vodacom still honor the roaming agreement?

I'll prefer if they go back to 8ta, it sounds a lot better than TM... :p

I hated that 8ta name. I prefer Telkom Mobile. It sounds more professional for me. Cell C has got a bad rep if you ask me. I would say it will be better to rebrand Cell C into Telkom Mobile.

hehehe

But whatever, exciting times ahead. We can only hope for the best.

Agreed. Telkom's service and sales departments seem to be the lead anchor dragging the ship down at a constant rate. Not even mentioning the installation techies who cannot install a cherry on a cupcake.

They can burn the CellC brand for all I care.

I think the Telkom brand carries more weight anyway in all market segments.

Or hopefully the other way round. Telkom is not operating well

Obviously I'm talking from a network quality stand point. You will never need support if the network "Just works" like most of Telkom's stuff.

But will they be allowed to do so?

(VC/neotel deal)

I think that if the Neotel/VC goes through, they can't then deny Telkom the purchase of Cell C. If the VCN deals goes through and they block this TC deal then we're in trouble.

I'm only referring to the dropping of the Cell C brand...

The VC/Neotel is going to happen, whether tomorrow or in six months time.
