Telkom ups its bid for Cell C

Ok. Then why would they not be allowed to drop the CellC brand? The brand has no positive connotations at all.

very different considerations at play so i don't think the relationship between the deals is quite so linear

Cell C for me was always a breeze.

Depends on the agreement really. It should still stand, but Telkom also have a roaming agreement with MTN.

My guess is, since Vodacom roaming excludes HSDPA/4G in some areas, it makes sense to switch to MTN roaming in those areas.

CellC's regional offices are nothing less than brilliant. The franchise store experience varies but is generally bad due to the inept staff - so mostly the same experience as Telkom.
 
Dumbest Move in Corporate History

So let me get this right - At some stage Telkom owned a large chunk of Vodacom. They then sold their share to Vodafone. Vodacom then goes on to make record profits in the billions year on year. Now Telkom looks to buy CellC which is a struggling mobile operator dwarfed by Vodacom. Heck - this has to be one of the dumbest moves in corporate history.

Telkom would not have been able to compete with Vodacom as long as they held a share. They needed to sell to open up TM.

Telkom could have increased its shareholding of Vodacom, and if they did that they would have been majority shareholder and that would have helped them to bundle Telkom Products with Vodacom.

No, they could not. The shareholding agreement was not in Telkom's favour and restricted them quite badly.




PS. I did not support the sale of Telkom's Vodacom share.
 
This would be a good thing if it happens. I'm sure Telkom is the answer to CellC's problems and with the awesomeness i get from my Telkom Mobile service i can only imagine how it would be if they get into CellC's driver seat :) . How long from now though
