This morning, I received a call from a Telkom technician informing me that my home ADSL line has been converted to VDSL.

Here is a speedtest screenshot while using Telkom Internet as the ISP...

Clearly, I am on the 20Mbps network - although some areas can connect up to 40Mbps!

Well done Telkom, thank you.

Actually, you are probably on 40mb - they need to supply you with a VDSL router before you can take full advantage, which they will do.

Sooo lucky thou :(

I hate you.

First check your VSDL modem's stats page to see at what speed you synchronize before even attempting to do a speedtest...

Well, I do have a VDSL modem/router from Telkom...

I'll check the Status page on the router itself to see my sync speed. I may also need an ISP account that can support up to 40Mbps.

I live in Morningside, Sandton - and I connect to the Benmore Gardens exchange (011-883).

Update: The MSAN is about 100 metres outside of my house and my VDSL router is showing me that I am syncing at 40956 Kbps.

I should be getting 40Mbps speedtest results... I will speak to Telkom Internet. Perhaps I will need a seperate ISP account for this type of connectivity.

I tested an Afrihost capped account and I was getting about 12Mbps on the speedtest.

I am currently getting about 20Mbps with my regular @dsl512telkomsa.net account...

Any advice or comments?

you may be hitting the limit of your wifi connection before u hit the limit of your internet connection. try again with ethernet and see if it makes a difference.

Hey Ice2Cool

You were absolutely correct!! I connected via Ethernet and now I am getting 38Mbps speeds - incredible!

Your solution certainly worked, thanks so much... :)

ROFL SADNESS!! People that get 40mbit trials use wireless inside their house....such fail. Wireless is only good for mobile devices and perhaps laptops, other than that, cables are the way to go.

The latency of 5ms is also impressive! Your connection is faster than most companies have available!

Enjoy man!
