Are you sure Telkom is offering VDSL2?

Does not matter what your router says. Just means your side on your router is set to VDSL2...

Well if most have 4Mbit or less then they do not have much of a choice I guess. I don't quite see the point of your post though :S

What I mean by that, is that it would be difficult to get a petition organized for it, due to the low user base. I would sign on it, even though I am limited to 10.

I am pretty sure as well, mybroadband quoted telkom saying they are rolling out VDSL2 somewhere, not VDSL1.
Found the link
Presuming the vendors and contractors involved meet Telkom’s requirements, technical testing will then run for a period of 3–6 months.

The new MSANs will allow Telkom to roll out ADSL2+, VDSL2, and fibre-to-the-premises to customers within the trial areas.

All three technologies won’t necessarily be available in all areas, and Telkom’s head of wholesale and networks, Bashier Sallie, said that particularly FTTx would only be rolled out where it made business sense.

Has anybody got senior contacts in Telkom to send this thread to? Can a MyBB staff writer maybe pickup on the story. Anybody got contact with Duncan McLeod from TechCentral. Maybe start a campaign like Mweb: "Free the upstream (web)".

What's he going to do? Stab them with a pen? I'm sure that Jan @MyBB can do better...

LOL - The pen is mightier than the sword...

Duncan McLeod was instrumental in fighting the Telkom monopoly from the late 90's, the days when only Telkom was allowed to send data signals across a public road, via cable or wireless.

Wrong forum... DF does not appreciate being quoted on MyBB.

Chat to Jan Vermeulen.

PM received.

We've been whinging about the slow fixed-line upstream speeds in South Africa since our Let's Talk Geek days (remember those, MickeyD? ;))

I actually switched my main connection to a WISP because they could give me higher upstream speeds.

I'll tackle an article on this from next week by e-mailing some ISPs (particularly Neotel and Vox who offer symmetrical services) and Telkom to ask them why things are the way they are right now, and what must be done to change it.

Reading this thread is so painful - I am still stuck on a 4Mbps line with 512kbps upload once every second month for 5 minutes:(

I hope that by the time VDSL is available in my neighbourhood the upload ratio is improved, happy to add my name to any list to this effect.

As far as I am aware all Huawei IMAX units can support adsl2+ annex M. 90% of all ADSL routers support annex m. So Telkom could push the upload speeds on ADSL to 2.5mbps if they wanted. I have seen our IMAX here and it is a Huawei one. This would help with the 20meg ADSL profiles.....
