Hi friends,

I am not sure if this solution has been placed here by anyone else, however I am posting it in the hope that I can spare some people the frustration I recently experienced.

After using this system since January 2009, my E960 gateway went from full HSDPA signal (light blue mode light) to a solid green or blinking green mode light overnight (This despite still having 95% signal). Despite speaking to between 6 to 10 technicians at Telkoms do broadband tech support over a period of two weeks, nobody seemed to understand what the problem was, and various explanations were provided i.e Tower antenna swaps etc.

I am not an IT person, so these things are difficult for me to resolve on my own.

The problem was eventually very easily resolved. And here is the million dollar solution.

1. Connect your gateway using the USB cables provided by Telkom (not via network cable).

2. If you have never connected this way previously, the 'Mobile Partner' software will automatically install.

3. Open Mobile Partner.

4. Click on 'Tools' and then 'Options'

5. On the left, choose 'Network'

6. Click on the 'Network Type' tab.

7. Make sure under 'Network Type', 'W-CDMA only' is selected.

8. Apply changes, and exit to the main screen and click connect. My mode light instantly went back to light blue and has stayed there since. Thank heavens !!

8. If your settings are at 'W-CDMA preferred' - you can experience issues where the gateway only connects to EDGE.

I really hope this helps someone, because I spent 2 weeks pulling my hair out over this. In the end, I went and initiated a Vodacom 3G contract because my office is home-based and I have to be connected. I have no cabled lines in my area.

Cheers.
