I dont bother to post half of the issues I have with Telkom anymore, it would simply take up too much of my time, but this one takes the freakin cake...
Currently, as it stands, it will cost you R299 for a 2mbps connection. No specials, no bundles Im just talking vanilla 2mbps option.
I got a call now from a call centre, Telkom's, offering me a "special rate" for my R299 portion of my line. They are offering a 25% discount to "loyal customers". Interesting that I made into this category considering I have had an ADSL line in my name for about 2 months, if that. So I smelt BS right off the bat.
I said thanks that would be great, I mean why would I decline a saving? Next it comes out, this is valid for 12 months from the agreement on the phone call. "so its a contract then?" "no its not a contract, you dont have to sign anything" "so its a verbal contract then?" "no sir, its an agreement you enter with telkom for 12 months" "right, so its a verbal agreement over the phone that binds me to paying a certain amount for the next 12 months?" "yes sir, that is correct"
I then proceed to question the reason for the special, and why you cant pay R225 without entering this CONTRACT (agreement... pfft...). And why everybody cant just sign up on the website and pay the R225 instead of the R299. Apparently its only for certain people.. go figure. Im guessing only for people who ARENT in a contract already ie. un-bound to Telkom
"So what happens if I agree to this and Telkom reduce the price to R150 for everyone else?" "Sir, I cannot say what Telkom have planned for the next months, but I can assure you will be saving R75 on your current bill if you go ahead with this special"
Im guessing that Telkom have some price reductions in the pipeline, and are now cold-calling to get as many non-contract/non-bundle bound clients into a "agreement".
3 months later watch the price drop to like R150 and then you got people being raped for R225
