Any Telkom ADSL customers received any e-mail notifying them of the pending 1 November doomsday changes?

Im going to be really upset if TelkomInternet is not hardcapping their accounts as well.

I just spent a fortune on a 10gig Saix account which I could have rather spended on a Telkom 3gig account wich is softcapped. I can not understand why Telkom do not see it neccesary to inform people of what they are planning to do.

I phoned Telkom today to ask them this question directly. I made out that I was a new subscriber and asked them to tell me about the shaping anf the capping. The service that they told me about was exactly the same as listed on their website. International throttled and local access after capping.

I think that all the ISPs should approach the competitions board, as this is blatant uncompetitive behaviour.

From their website at 20h27 on Monday 31st October:
# When your cap is reached

Once your cap threshold has been achieved you may purchase further Gigs of usage in the form of usernames to maintain unrestricted service. Although TelkomInternet currently allows capped users restricted access to international sites and applications, and unrestricted access to local content, e-mail and applications, TelkomInternet reserves the right to deny authentication to any ADSL users dependent on network usage or abuse

No notice about hardcapping here. The only email from Telkom is the weekly usage report.

nope, nothing here either, 4 hours to go - i highly doubt anything will come up - i don't know if this is good or bad ???

So any ISP other than Telkom will have a hard-cap?

They can't be THAT stupid?

force all your competitions customers to move to your services... go Telkom, the best run business in the country, exploit all channels available to you...

Nothing here yet either. I've just looked at axxess site and they say that 3GN shaped and 4GB unshaped are unchanged for them - dunno if this has any relevance.

I suspect that Telkom will say that no user of telkoms has ever abused their account and thus they continue with status quo. Let's wait and see what transpires, but it looks like a competitions board court case soon. I'm also interested to see if ei ei eicasa does anything. The minister won't as, as per her statements, doesn't understand communications and cannot communicate.

I also received nada from Telkom. If their account remains softcapped, what are the chances of every1 moving to Telkominternet so that their share price can increase just a little more?

I've done over 6GB this morning on a TelkomInternet account.
You haven't been disconnected yet, so there is no way of them checking. Disconnect, reconnect, wait 10 mins, disconnect/reconnect again and see if you have local bandwidth (you won't have any international!!) :).

I also just phoned and explained exactly what I needed to know. And the answer I received is quite promising..."No sir, we are not hardcapping. Once you've reached your cap, you won't be able to surf international, but local surfing will still be possible".

Whether this person knows what she's talking about, I don't know...but if I look at everyone's posts it seems promising. If this is a fact, then Telkom are real sneaky bastards...as if that is new information.
