hi all
right, so those of you following this thread will know that all the uncapped offerings/ADSL speed upgrades are starting to take their toll on the various telkom exchanges.
we basically sitting in a situation where the DSLAM that you are connected to is "flat-lining" causing unacceptable download speeds and latencies.
typical example below of pings to both international and local duing one of these "flat-lining" periods

typically, one can change their ISP and will have no difference as the connection still needs to go through the telkom exchange. this was confirmed when I tested with 4 different accounts, all displaying the same issue.
so as time goes on, more and more uncapped offerings are being put onto the table. In conjunction with the speed upgrades on the various exchanges (10 mbps) its having a serious negative effect.
Short term solution for a user experiencing this? Get Telkom to move you to a different DSLAM. My concern there is that it will only be a temp solution. then the final quesion beckons,
What are Telkom doing to curb this? Are they planning on upgrading all the 10mbps exchanges?
900ms ping is simply not acceptable, and I imagine many people will cancel their ADSL accounts.
Your thoughts?
