Telkom's future at stake

Maybe someone can enlighten me as to why when we have black people at the top, they feel they have the right to put their hand in the till? Im not saying white people dont do it, however checkout all the cases of corruption we come across, in most cases black managers / executives.
Perhaps when whites do it, we either:
1. Go large - Arthur Brown.
2. Create a good enough cover that nobody finds out.

You can replace the "Telkom" in the headline by just about any other SOE or government department...

...and robbed the market without anybody noticing until somebody cried out, and got labeled as a racist for exposing the robbery.

So true...
If the only good thing to come from this is that the CWU took the step to start blowing the whistle. Even though they might have had an agenda for doing so (or maybe not), for me that is a much needed light at the end of the tunnel. Could this be the start of "the people" having had enough of the fat cats greasing their paws whilst the rest have to suffer in silence? I truly hope so, and I hope many other unions / employee organisations follow their lead and start making noise about the rubbish which passed off as "this is Africa".

Of course even if everything in the document can be proven it will make little difference to the man in the street. For me this is incredibly good news and I hope to see more such stories in the near future, and not just about Telscum.

He said Thabang Mothelo had been suspended because he did not follow Telkom's internal whistle blowing policy.

and then

'I encourage a culture of open dialogue, in which employees can raise issues and express opinions transparently without fear or favour, and we have effective externally managed mechanisms for whistle-blowing and employee engagement,' said Hedberg ..."

emphasis mine. It is obviously not effective, because nothing ever happens in case of external whistle blowing. I am not sure why disciplinary actions are kept secret - sure it can be kept secret whilst it is in action, but as soon as there is an outcome where the employee is found guilty the results must be made public. The will send a clear message to other corrupt employees, and will also make it clear that whistle blowers information is taken seriously. The habit of keeping the outcome of disciplinary hearings secret and then just send the people on their way with golden handshakes needs to stop. Justice must be harsh and merciless and public - these people effectively keep the economy hostage to their own greed.

I feel sorry for Mr Hedberg - I think he has good intentions but he needs to keep playing the game to try and get things done, because he doesn't toe the line he would be out of there tomorrow. IMHO external whistle blowing is the only way forward for telkom.

I wonder how legal it would be to start a "telkomleaks" website.

duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude nooowaaay !! far out!

corruption at Telkom ? How is this possible!!!

Another quality article on MyBB.

Well this explains why Telkom has been ignorant of pricing structures of competitors or value for customers !

I'm too scared to start making calculations for a grand total of the money Telkom has wasted since last year.

Telkom Media was R600m I think? But that is nothing compared to the money wasted in Nigeria. Now imagine a private company wastes so much money - they will have to close their doors.

*It's plain & simple to see .... the people that needs to make the business decisions are incompetent.

Here in Hartbeespoort we caught the telkom appointed security company stealing cables. They tried to atleast but stopped when we got there. Royal Guarding CC is there name for anyone who cares. Strangely when I was at a local telkom branch the consultant said its not the first time Royal Guarding was caught. Goes to show, some tall timber in telkom protected them......

You get crooked and then you get 'crooked', but that is just plain rotten. The security company hired fraudulently to protect the copper cable that Telkom is charging us an arm and a leg for stealing the copper cable (probably, but not provably, by agreement with the bastards who issued the security contracts in the first place).

We really do not have a gravy train in this country. It's a rocket boosted saucy maglev train of of doom!

I fell asleep after the first paragraph. Sounds to me someone is an sour grape because he didn't get an increase.

And oh yeah... I just want to add that I am not surprised at all :p Funny how you can suspect and state what you suspect for years and there will be trolls who come up asking questions like "But do you know how to run telkom better?" F#ckityf#ckyeah I can!
