Telkoms Latest Scam

I'm a month ahead in my payments. I like to keep it that way, they've got no excuse to cut me off.

Touch Wood

/Desperately hanging on to a piece of wood here on my side.....

Strangely enough.
I have yet to have these sort of errors on my account?
In my case Telkom take "their" money by means of a Debit Order.
The Debit Orders on my 2 accounts each have predetermined limits and any amount over that limit I pay via EFT long before the due date.
I also have detailed billing so that I can see what I am being charged for and I installed Block Call about 2 years ago to avoid people who may forget that calling a Cell Phone from a Telkom line is a rather expensive business.
So far so good?

/Releases piece of wood and extends it to other MyADSL members.... :)

Sometime between feb and march or maybe its swtiching to closer package they seem to be charging ahead of time or something is really messed up with the whole accounting stuffs because i can't keep track anymore. we just collect the bills, maybe i need to relook at them again, anways their bills are very weird also always mid-month which is part of the annoyance factor.

But every one has forgotten about the biggest scam Telkom has pulled. Remember when Telkom said we were switching over to 10 digit dailing on local calls. Well this send all the security companies rushing out to your house to reprogram the phone number stored in your alarm system. And basically all of the got scammed by Telkom to use the new 0861 number.
Charged at not local rate, but long distance rate. So every time your alarm phones the security company down the street, Telkom scores a long distance charge for a local call. NICE...

Interesting.

Didn't realise that.
And when we had the Rolling Black-outs in Cape Town recently my alarm was dialling ADT at regular intervals.
An ADT Operator still called me to tell about the volume of calls, so I pulled the alarm system out of the phone socket.

Very scaly indeed.

This is precisely why I signed up for the online billing - https://ebpp.telkom.co.za/ - they were always cutting me off for being a couple days late even if the bill never arrived. Same happened all the time with Mnet too.

Blaady money making scam IMO but it hasnt happened since I signed up.
I find that service to be totally useless...

It still shows amounts outstanding from January even though our payments are up to date AND is normally way too late with new statements.

Just another in the long line of crap services from Telkom :(

Another scam

Another one of Telkom's scams: I always pay more than what's on my bill, because I know when I move house there's going to be extra costs.

But for some reason these crooks charge me four rands and some change "interest." What on earth for? The ADSL part of my account is already paid in advance (remember the first month you paid double), so it is not in arrears, even if it is on the invoice. So what's left is phone line rental, and the odd call (I make one or two a month to local numbers), and that's more than covered by the "too much" part.

Geez

The really biggest scam is, that when the finally admit that they have made a mistake and agree to reverse it, they will charge interest on the amount incorrectly charged for, knowing full well that trying to get THAT sorted out will waste more time than it's worth ...
