'Terra Nova' Cancelled

Good news!

It's nothing but a soapy with dinosaurs thrown in.

In a way I agree with you, but if it is aimed at teenagers then why budget so much? Shows that are successful appeal to a wide range of people, and because of that more people watch it. Teenagers make up a small percentage of the overall viewing audience, so a big budget show aimed at them is doomed to fail.

Never under-estimate the purchasing power of stupid people...

The writing on the show was bad. Gave the actors nothing to work with.

What is worse with these shows even with popular shows like Lost,Heroes etc is that you there is a different team of writers for each episode that can really mess up the series. That is why a story written by a single person such as based on a book is much harder to mess up e.g. Game of Thrones.

Different directors for each episode as well.

Wow, so many different opinions. We quite enjoyed it. It's hard enough finding something sci-fi-ish to watch that the wife and I can both enjoy together. Hard-core sci fi is not really her cup of tea and I can't stand pure drama. I thought the show got a lot better as it progressed in terms of the plot-reveal and development. The initial episodes were great little stand-alones but didn't really seem to follow a series arc. The arc only really got going towards the end and it wasn't all that bad. I'm disappointed it got cancelled, but it once again reminds me that I have a very niche interest sometimes. I'm still pining for Stargate Universe, the cancellation of which is almost as mind-bogglingly inept as the cancellation of Firefly.

Aaaw, I wanted to see what was in the Badlands

Maybe NBC will pick it up? It still had fairly high ratings...

Really? I'm having trouble sitting through half an episode... :/

I think you are right... you do need a show that geeks can watch with their wives. Its a tough crowd to serve though... I think they didn't even try though.

If you look at the pilot compared to the rest of the series its clear that they had a team of writers with a concept and ideas, that was great. Then what happened is that the network came in and said... people might like this show but we think we can please everyone : Geeks, Christians, Desperate housewives, teens and people who watched avatar in 2d. Then they brought in their own writers and producers and massacred the show. Parts of the original story are there, the 6ers, the crazy son, the bad teenagers... and those were all the parts we liked.
Then the parts of the show that were added in later to make the show more wholesome and apply to a wider audience were added : The lame family values stuff and dino fight of the week... etc

Sometimes when you are watching the show it feels like you could be watching something set in 2011 in some non-descript suburb in America... thats where the show failed.

With LOST the entire story was completed before the TV show was even created, they changed a few things just in case it had to be shortened. So yes there were multiple writers and directors but the damage was limited because the story was already laid out (like with a book)

Its a pity terra nova was cancelled. Many shows only find their feet in their second seasons, this is especially true for sci fi.... Ds9, next gen, bab5 all had rubbish first seasons.
