Texting while driving, this has to stop

So we should just sit around and wait for the police to wake up and decide to do their jobs? How much moaning has there been on this very forum calling for people to be sacked for failing to do their jobs, but suddenly its cool if it's a pretty woman blatantly breaking the law and endangering people.

Why don't you go sit and take pictures of all the people doing this and report them to someone if you want to do the police's work for them? Why don't you go and patrol a farm to stop the poachers? Why don't you go looking for murderers? Nooo, because you would much rather sit behind your pc and cause problems for a woman that might have done this for the first time in her life.. If you want to make a difference go and be a policeman.. Some people on here are just bloody angels, it's actually ridiculous!!

Why don't you try and get the point before going off on a hissy fit? So everyone who wants a better country needs to run off and become a policeman?

No that is not what I am saying. I am trying to say that nothing happened here and we do not know the cause of her texting (might have been very important or someone in an emergency - sure even u almighty angel would answer a text message if a family member was in distress). Do not give this person a hard time if you do not know the whole story. Nothing happened, so OP should have made her aware that she is wrong and maybe pointed out that she is travelling in a company vehicle and let it be. No need to go and cause crap for someone over this silly thing. Really :)

Oh yes - the OP has also not responded as to whether he has never used a phone whilst driving. I would very much like to hear from him.
Okay, so you want to set aside that "this poor girl" very unfortunately got bust and go off on a tangent of casting aspersions on my credibility instead? How about we rather stay on-topic? That seems to me to be more relevant.

Relax man.
How often have you heard somebody say: "I am so sorry"?
BS.
Let me tell you who is sorry.
A pregnant first year student.
Believe me 100% of them are very, very sorry. First time of te not.

Good on you for catching this. I love the internet and technology. It is making people more accountable. From bullies to reckless drivers like this one.

Its one of the reasons I have ordered a car camera. There are just too many bad drivers and as rozor spunkywunky have highlighted.... do it often enough and it almost becomes acceptable.

Fk the woman, she could have killed others.

I asked you a very simple question. The only aspersion being cast is that of the obvious inferral to be made by your reluctance to answer this question. So, I take it then that you have used a phone while driving. Good on you dude. Hypocrisy rules.

You mean nothing happened YET. Sooner or later she will be the cause of an accident and I hope getting into trouble at work opens her eyes to the fact that she is a hazard on the road if she is on her phone while driving.

What would you guys be saying if instead we had a news article about how a woman had hit and killed a child while she was texting, and someone from the forums said hey I know her, I saw her texting while driving the day before? You would all be saying, "Why didnt you do anything?"

+1

Just about everybody has in the past. After seeing the carnage that texting while driving causes I reply to texts/emails when I arrive at my destination.

Would you want that guy behind you on the highway?

Pretty much what I said at the beginning. But it's easy in hindsight for them to claim that their responses would be no different.

Yep. As easy as implying someone is a liar with no evidence to support the statement

Yes either way; for my part if there is ONE thing I would love to see less of, it's this.

Here's what may be a novel thought to you: how about NOT doing this and, I don't know, being a responsible driver instead? (yes that was snarky, disputatious contumely will be answered in kind)

Funnily enough, I too have just had a novel thought - why don't you answer questions posed to you, directly?

I wonder what First For Women would have to say about cases like this

Question to all the people saying leave her alone:

If she did cause an accident, and you witnessed it, what would you say in court?

As, for no reason that makes ANY sense to me, they DON'T have an email address on the contact page I had to speak to a call centre agent to get one to which I could send the photo. And, yes, a link to this thread. And, surprisingly (which is not fair to Charl, I just loathe callcentres), that was actually painless.

Can you explain why you had to link this thread for Motorite’s consumption? Is it not enough that you reported her? But, you also feel the need to escalate the matter by extending for Public exposure thus placing Motorite in a negative light which will ultimately aggravate the matter from “driving while texting” to “bringing the company into disrepute and driving while texting”.
I would have been be more than satisfied with your conduct had you merely sent the Pic to Motorite and let them deal with the matter alone.
Perhaps you could have made this thread with the Pics without Motorite’s knowledge. Your motive, however, is confounding.

I don't see anyone here (on either side) slandering Motorite. There's only been criticism and defence of her behaviour.

You can tell by the number of complaints on Hello peter that this company is running a scamming operation and this is serious, We are taking this up with the Insurance ombudsman, Consumer commission and Carte Blanche to get to the bottom of this!! Watch this space!!
http://hellopeter.com/motorite-insurance-administrators/complaints/dont-use-motorite-ever-916725

Judging from all the complaints on Hello Peter, I would guess that the company does not care too much how its staff drive.

Eish. The truth I would say. But talking about the truth, can you please specifically confirm you have never used a cell while driving.

Once again you seem to deliberately miss the point. Very few are defending her behaviour. Many are questioning why the OP had to be such a high and mighty vigilante. Said OP who has avoided answering the question as to whether he has ever used a phone while driving....

Actually, I'm not so sure. If this photo gets alot of exposure it will be very embarassing for the company - it's the kind of thing that can get a person fired. Large corporates don't have souls, they have public images......
It's a pic of a stationary/moving vehicle with a person typing on a phone. Hardly evidence of any wrongdoing.

A video would have been something else.

Can you show how my driving habits have any bearing on the topic at hand? THAT is what I tried to get through to you there. But, as you're hell-bent on this: no, I am not perfect, I would submit that no-one is; which is also besides the point. That said, years ago I was texting while driving (so this was on a keypad phone sending SMS, it was a really long time ago) and happened to be going uphill and looking into the sun, so late afternoon. What I earned for my troubles was driving at 50-60(ish) into a horribly tall and steep concrete verge, and put a FAT ding into my mag rim. Which came as a horrible shock and I'm glad I was lucky enough to not have done any damage to anyone else's property.

I've never forgotten that incident but that was also then. As for now; well, I make a conscious effort to not text, it's just not worth it. That said, I have a few regular spots out on the open road where I text my gf as to my progress when I'm travelling between Jozi and Rustenburg. And that's a one word message - "Goblin" is typical - and there's almost never anyone anywhere near me. Which is clearly the same thing as the point I've raised here.

Now, are you ready to let this go, or do you have more irrelevant haranguing you feel is relevant to the point at hand?

Funnily enough, I too have just had a novel thought - why don't you answer questions posed to you, directly?
Look closer, you may even find that I am.
