Texting while driving, this has to stop

why, oh why are you so evidently desperate to protect the OP? It's rather strange. Very obvious, but still strange...
Why are you so desperately defending the woman? Are you one of those Internet geeks who wets their pants, hoping there's a 0.0001% chance that she reads your posts and immediately thinks of bedding you?

There really should be a way for the general public to assist with things like this and report law breakers. We all moan about there not being enough visible policing but if motorists knew that anyone around them could report them they may think twice about breaking the law to start with. I'm sure if the lady in the photo had seen a cop car around she would have stopped using her phone until she was out of sight. Most people know they are doing wrong but also feel they can get away with it.

I realise the problem with "public" policing like this is that it can hardly be enforced when it is one's word against another. But perhaps just a warning letter or the like might convince them to not do so again. Like this woman finding out about this discussion...

Another thread about people being irresponsible on the road. Another thread with posts trying to shift the blame. Jumping to the defense of the guilty motorist. I suppose if she had run over a skateboarder, for example, while texting, comments would have been made about how that skateboarder should not have been there... and accidents happen.... <SMH>

[EDIT: And people wonder why this is my new crusade...]

If a skateboarder is on the highway it deserves to be run over! ;)

The arrive alive line does (or did) something like this.

But yeah, if there was some way for road users to submit evidence that could be used to convict others of reckless driving, I'd be front of the queue to submit it.

There's no accountability on the roads, and I will applaud ANYTHING that increases accountability.

I acknowledge your wink. But two points anyway:

1. I do not know this road but is it a highway?
2. The skateboard reference was to another thread where a chap apparently came off his skateboard, fell in the road and driven over by a truck. There are obviously circumstances under which there would be no chance to avoid them but it sure does not help when motorists aren't concentrating on the road.

Hell no. I applaud his actions and have in fact done the same myself.

But....the OP has admitted to doing the same thing as this lady in the past, and that he still does it. I am very confused?

Lol. He who smelt it dealt it :). And for the fourth time you miss the point....

In the past, and I'm sure he's learnt his lesson, as he pointed out. Furthermore, he didn't break the law while representing his company. The mentality in this thread is poor - just because that guy did it once upon a time means that he can do f-all about it now, while I can, because he everyone does it.

this was along Northumberland just after The Dome, heading to Beyers Naudé; that I will freely acknowledge is a lovely straight section of dual carriageway.

Like a hiway ;) ;)

I realized you referred to the skater accident. Do you make make a habit of cross posting from other threads or only when it suits your crusade? Did we all kill that skateboarder now.

My advice, dry your panty, drink a dop and relax! Maybe even get a job?

Odd, I only see you missing the point. Your only contribution to this thread has been "have you ever used your phone while driving before?".

Sorry, I never realised the type I was dealing with here, if I had I would not have bothered engaging you.

No, he said he still does it. Go read, Mr. Mentality :)

By the way, how old are you?

Clint, except that this woman was blatantly caught in the act. We have no idea what the driver was or wasn't doing in the other incidents. We've argued the merits of crossing a solid white line and agreed that the law is a bit vague in that regard. In this instance, I'm sure you'll agree that there is absolutely no doubt.

I realized your type since you re-enrolled your membership, does that make us even now?

The overall mentality regarding road safety is poor, to say the very least. The mentality that "everyone does it so it makes it acceptable" seems rife...

It's MY photo, OF her. Her permissivity is a whole other question.

You are living in your own little world. Posting personal closeups without subject's permission is the quickest way to work yourself out of your house, car and whatever belongings you may have scraped together over the years! However, this is not why I am posting. You said the vehicle was moving at over 60kmh? If yes then there is something very wrong with the pic ! As the saying goes: liar, liar pants on fire :D I am a bit surprised no one notices the discrepancy.
