Texting while driving, this has to stop

Woah. I see I'm being dragged back into this and slandered...

My car has xenon projectors, with autoleveling and headlight washers.

I know of cars with HID kits fitted into halogen housings THAT DO NOT emit excessive glare - and the kits have approval stamps by the way.

Now go read your email while you're driving, and I hope you hit a bridge instead of an innocent bystander.

Your hope that we crash is endearing.

Now answer my question please.

Nope, no intention of engaging with you any further, thanks. You've shown your disregard for road safety and law enforcement and as far as I'm concerned your accident will be no loss to society (apart, of course, from the costs involved in cleaning up the mess)

I am out of this thread. I can't believe people are so obtuse.

ZOMG IT'S ON THE INTERWEB IT MUST BE TRUER THAN MY EXPERIENCE!

Also, one of the links is from a company selling projectors. You don't think that PERHAPS they may be a LITTLE bit biased?

The science is true.
The focal point differs.
HIDs emit light differently as compared to halogen bulbs..

What would your reaction be to being fined for having your elbow or arm or hand out of the window while driving? Because that's also against the law, you know.

I see people on the phone / texting almost every day in town and it's a pretty common occurrence on TV too.

No, that that doesn't make it right - but this isn't exactly the start of "wide spread anarchy" or a crime wave either. :wtf:

Checking your phone while waiting in line at a red traffic light isn't causing hurt to anyone - nor does it have the potential to. How is it any different from a car that just stalled or ran out of gas while waiting at the light?
I'd love to hear some amazing stories from those claiming otherwise.

Worst that can happen is that the car behind the person checking his cellphone will hoot to get his attention should he forget to look up in time. Wasn't there a post about people hooting at the robot the millisecond it turns green scarcely a week ago?

However, I guess we should be understanding as some folks like Sinbad who's comparing the "checking of cellphones while waiting at a red robot" to theft, rape and murder might possibly have had a misguided religious background which claims all sins, big and small are equal.

PS. Before I get the Book thrown at me: It's actually a common misconception among believers, see this for more.

Can you believe this ?

Then since that's what you wish on a fellow MyBB member IMHO your accident will amount to no more than the loss of a internet troll with an attitude?

I laugh, long and hard. Your drama, your hypocrisy, your inability to admit your double standards. Your running away. Hilarious.

Indeed, synbad is not someone who I will ever respect much as an individual. But it does make forums fun :)

It's all good, cos 'speed kills'. Not reckless 'tards. Hope you have the license plate and forwarded the pic to Motorite, because that's just a complete fail.

And that is what is so frustrating about these camouflaged speed cameras. I am not saying that people should be allowed to speed, but the person texting while driving and ignoring stop streets is a greater danger than the person doing 75 in 60.

Only check while sitting at a red robot? Pull the other leg please! We all drive on the roads, we see people on their cellphones and how they behave. So how long does a robot stay red for? So now you've quickly checked the message, so what if it requires a response? Do you very patiently wait for the next red robot you might come across? I can bet a good few rand on the fact that anyone who is impatient enough to have to check a message at a red robot will also be trying to reply while driving.

Even ignoring that, I have seen more than one person attempting to drive using only their peripheral vision and easing forward at a robot while texting only to look up at the last second and have to brake as they almost hit the car in front.

And I, for one, would not want to choose murder over someone checking an SMS, but I also am flabbergasted how some seem to feel you can pick and choose which laws you want to abide by.

Finally, why the hell are we even having this discussion. It is against the law to use your phone while driving. And, as if necessary, studies have shown the dangers of doing so. Full stop.

What about hijackings? If you're so engrossed in your phone at a red light, how will you react to a potentially dangerous situation? You won't have an inkling of what could be about to happen if you pay no attention to your surroundings.

A point that I was going to bring up too. Red robot or not you should be focused on what is happening around you. You are still driving.

Unpossible. if they're fitted to halogen housings, they are giving off glare. even if you adjust them downwards, in addition to the fact that the halogen housing scatters the light pattern.
Why else do you thing HIDs have bespoke projector housings? it certainly isn't to look pretty.

Yes, that is completely "unpossible" :D

To add

Took de waal drive home today. One good oke on his e-reader/ipad, in traffic. brilliant.
Blonde poppie on her phone, looked like it was on speaker. or she was having a fit. couldn't tell.
Props to the dude in the convertible alfa, he was using a bluetooth headset

No, I have a bluetooth system fitted. If you want to use your phone while driving then you should bare the expense of having a handsfree system fitted. Using a cellphone while driving has been proven to increase the risk of accidents, there's absolutely no way to justify this.

Maintaining any type of conversation while driving has been proven to be dangerous.
So everyone should string you up from the nearest tree as well?
