Peh. I did take my camera and lens, used those a bunch. My iPod. Powerbank. eBook.

If I was doing it again I'd probably just take one camera, one lens, iPod.

Thanks guys. You're not making the decision easy for me though, have spent so much on all these gadgets so really need to start using them. Was even considering a getting a kindle for the trip as well...

Will start packing tonight and see what makes sense.

Travel light. You're going to be doing a lot of walking in the heat. Don't even bother with the kindle, the flights should have decent entertainment on-board. Download some audiobooks/podcasts to your phone and carry headphones.

I don't think I've ever been on a flight that had decent entertainment. The vertical viewing angles of the screens are usually crap, and even when it isn't the quality is pretty much bad SD. It may also be censored versions, as they don't want the kid behind you seeing naughty things. It's OK for The headphones are pretty useless, and the selection is usually not good enough for a long flight.
The headphone issue can be overcome if you take your own and a flight headphone adapter: https://www.pricecheck.co.za/offers/44854102/Airplane+3.5mm+Headphone+Socket+Adaptor

Also, headphones which are reasonably isolating is a good idea, as the constant droning of the plane can be intrusive, especially with what they give you.

I typically read and drink till I'm tired, then sleep till I wake up. Rinse and repeat. And I still read proper paper books :D

Drone and GoPro definitely. You can use the hotel PC's to copy stuff off if you need space.

This is the first holiday where I didn't take my SLR. I didn't miss it one bit. Phone pictures came out great. Used portrait mode for a some background blur here and there. The only thing you'd perhaps need an SLR for is long exposures. Otherwise it's too bulky and I'm always scared of damaging it on day trips.

Lithium batteries usually go with you in your hand luggage. This way, if they short out and explode, there will be a way to extinguish it.

The Singapore Airlines A350 had all of the latest movies, series etc. I was very satisfied with it. The screen angle is adjustable and the earphones were fine. You can even take them with you, unplug the 2 pin adapter and use them like normal earphones.
 
Our flights are booked for 16 nights in Thailand. Flying into Phuket and out of Bangkok with Emirates. We paid R5700 on Travelstart last week.

I see that Emirates now charge you R400 to make a seat reservation. We are 4 people, I am definitely not paying R1600 per flight for this. R6400 for the whole trip.

We will do a few days in Phuket, go to Samui and Koh Phangan before the last two nights in Bangkok.

I will then update my website with the new info.

Does anyone know if Emirates still offer the $1 in flight internet?

A friend of mine bought some of those tickets for R6000 yesterday. Not too bad stopovers.
 
Looking for the best area in Phuket for Honeymoon early Nov. Only review seem mixed any recommendations on nice areas ? Looking for the best around place combination of party, beaches, not commercial etc.
 
Anyone have a pic of which plugs are used in Thailand? Dont wanna be stuck with no battery power

First day we had perfect weather, yesterday was cloudy with rain the whole afternoon and night, I woke this morning at 5 and it was coming down in buckets, now it's partly cloudy with more sun than clouds.

We are currently in Koh Samui and the weather has been great. Yesterday afternoon we had a heavy downpour but it was refreshing to break the heat.

Today we went to Ang Thong National Marine Park and we could not have asked for a better day.

The sea was flat like a dam.
