Allow me to share with you my ADSL story.

I have lived without Internet for four years. It's been painful. Every time we wanted to pay an account, send an email, book flights or just download a new song, we have had to spend hours at Internet cafes and coffee shops.

We had just moved into a new house and taken over the phone line from the previous tenant. We made our way on thursday to the Telkom direct shop in rosebank and asked them to provision a 1MB line on our line. We didn't expect great things considering the Long weekend began the next day, and all the negativity sorrounding telkom I had seen on this forum.

So on thursday last week, we phoned MWEB and ordered a 1MB uncapped data-only account. The service on the phone was brilliant, and within literally ten minutes I had an application form in my inbox. I had to buy a small data bundle on my phone to receive it, but it was well worth it. Filled out the form, and sent it at about 6PM. I immediately realized my mistake. Tomorow was Good Friday, and the whole weekend was basically a holiday.

We waited though the weekend with nothing happening. It it was no problem for us. I had flu, so I spent the whole weekend in bed. Come Tuesday, we receive an SMS from MWEB with our account details. We are halfway there. At least now we can use the 5 hours free wifi at wifi hotspots. I entered the details into our router, but the DSL light is black. Its not that disappointing, I didn't expect it to be done.

I wake up at about 11 this morning. My mom needs to check her emails and the data bundles are exhausted on my iPhone. We haven't recieved the SMS from telkom telling us that the line is provisioned, so we decide to make our way to the Local Vida e Caffe to use our wifi from MWEB. My mom deleted the SMS from MWEB, so I quickly boot up our router to check out account details.

But suddenly I notice the DSL light is flashing. And then it turns solid green. my heart literally stopped beating and finally, the Internet light is illuminated. I didn't believe it, so I tried google.com and sure enough, I am greeted with the MWEB landing page. Read all the terms And accepted. And the next thing I know, I Am doing all the things I have waited four years to do.

I am pleased. I expected telkom to give us hassles, but no such thing happened. Quite the contrary. The service was brilliant and fast, considering the long weekend. If you factor the long weekend out, telkom essentially got our service running in 1 and a half days.

So I believe credit where credit is due. MWEB guy, if you read this, know that you guys run a tight operation over there, and I am very, very happy.

And guys, my service from telkom has been nothing short of brilliant. So know that there is still hope. you just gotta believe.

Thanks for the Awesome feedback :D

I will definately pass it along to our management team!! Welcome to MWEB and Enjoy your day :D

good to hear bud, there is nothing like that feeling of OMG ive been waiting forever for this and to finally get it! I was stuck on iburst for a very long time also wanting DSL and the day i could afford it i was so amped, your situation is slightly different to mine but that excited feeling is just about the same xD

Telkom have improved alot of things recently and i still have hope for them as much as I also have doubts though, Its still a bit of a catch 22 with Telkom, sometimes you get amazing service and then the next time you get a shock because its just so bad. Can definitely say they have improved over the last year, maybe a tiny little bit but nonetheless they have atleast improved in some places.

I have been very sketchy about Mweb since my issues with them back in 2010 but recently having issues with my current ISP i decided to give the mweb trial account a go and perhaps if it meets my expectations ill consider using it again, I sent Mwebguy a private mail on Friday night and before end of Sat was up and running with all the details. Will definitely say that Mweb has got a very good sales team and so far the account is performing fantastically, had one little issue yesterday but reading the forums here seems i wasnt the only one, but not very long and that was resolved.

Hope you enjoy the line alot :D

Can't say much for Telkom, very erratic but Mweb always have constant and predictable response times and pretty good service for the most part :)

a once in a lifetime experience from Telkom. You are very lucky, I am still waiting for my ASDL line to be activated after 2 weeks!!!

In the 3 times I have moved house and the other 3 times I have helped people activate ADSL, the wait process hasn't been long at all (2-4 days!).

I really haven't had a problem with Telkom until one day they didn't switch off the previous house's ADSL and double billed us. That was a lot of grief right there let me tell you!

Credit should go to Telkom, setting up an account with an ISP is always instant.

I'm on 1 week now. Mweb guy told me that I can expect to wait 21 working days for Telkom to get their ducks in a row. Jippy.

Yeah that's what I'm planning on. Except Telkom told me its on. Mweb says it's not. They're investigating I was told.

Great going! Woot! I had the same good experience from mweb and surprisingly telkom. I just with Telkom business would get their ducks in a row. My line's died the second time in a month at the shop. :(
