Thank you Telkom

Dj just another question... This was your 3rd post on these forums 19 days ago? What happend to cause the sudden change of heart and love for Telskum? Or was that an attempt at sarcasm?

EDIT: Also.. why the double post of the exact same thing to two different topics?

Been busy, and well the reason for the two posts was i put it under the first one ...and then saw another member thanking telkom, and decided to put it there too,

Problem????

No problem, just you where threatening to go back to ISDN because of the bad ADSL speeds, now your stating how you love Telkom.. I just dont get it? I'm a logical person and I dont see the logic in that?

It had to do with the mentioning of the slow international speeds... at the end of the month when people were abusing there downloads, you know the little trick at the end of the month???

Know it well you will also see that I've had many heated conversations with people over the same topic, Actually in a thread you previously posted in.. I just stil dont get it?

EDIT:

Blah stupid Enter key, But you've said you stand by your stance and even though many people here me include dont agree, Even some people from the USA who have given views direct from the horses mouth to contridict you, Its your right to stand by that!

Nothing personal but actually labour and wages in South Africa are actually some of the highest in the world, thats part of the problem in most industries in this country, why do you think we still import most of our electronics and other items...cause it is cheaper to get it else where

In my estimation wages and labor costs are around 50% less than Europe and the US, maybe a littel more. Now compare SAs labor costs to China, India ... yes they are higher, but not the highest in the world. Alec Erwin has also said that South Africa is a good "off shore" location, because labor costs and wages are lower in South Africa, he said this while trying to attract more US and European businesses to send work to South Africa, where it can be done for a fraction of the cost.

dj_sam_antha,

Sure, a company must be profitable. I don't want to see the downfall of Telkom. Without them, we wouldn't have internet access at all. But, they are a monopoly and that gives them the power to exploit us (which they do). Eskom is also a monopoly, but our electricity costs are amongst the lowest in the world! This is why Telkom needs competition. Although I seriously doubt that it would make a difference, they need the wake-up-call. Perhaps they got one recently :D

Sadly, a lot of SA businesses have the Telkom mentality. They still haven't figured it out that by lowering their profit margin and thereby increasing their sales volume, they'll make even more moolah. Sometimes, I think that SA businesses charge you as much as they possibly can without you going bankrupt. That to me is not "affordability". Unfortunately, we don't moan about other companies as much as we do about Telkom.

As for hereing from people over seas I am not debating that they are cheaper but like I said in the beginning costs are based on affordability pure case and example what does....Microsoft Office cost in the States and what does it cost here?? well I am thinking it works out more here why..not cause we are expensive but because of what people are willing to pay or can afford,

As for the change of heart you know what there has been none I have had a good experience except for that end of the month stuff lmao, and well as for hearing from the horses mouth if you read my post i use my connection for alot of talking on SKYPE and Instant messaging..well ...now from speaking to people that use the internet alot they have the same problems we do,

We are not alone.... in regards to service levels and so forth..its a worldwide problem, as for downtime...that happens everywhere hell even on cable..and then you dont get TV for a day! what would we do...thank god we have SABC(sarcasm now)

I dont recall saying i love them lmao ...i wouldnt go that far

I have issues with you saying that people can afford more and pay for more in SA than they do here in the US ... I have visited SA 10 times in the last 5 years, and I am moving there next month ... I will venture to say that 98% of the population could not even afford a telephone line in their houses - something that is looked upon here in the US as a necessity, much less MS Office. It boils down to SA companies ripping off the wealthly, or that 2% of the population that are fortunate enough to afford these types of things. If you are talking affordability, then things should be way cheaper in SA, because that is what the majority of the population can afford.

Well in order to get phone lines to the 98% that can't afford, it at this point... you cant give away your services for free, yes we can say the infrastructure is already there...but in certain places its not and has to be built this costs money.. unfortunately ...we would love everything for nothing but it doesnt work that way like anything when it first comes out you pay for it, kinda like when you first bought that cd writer it costs you 2000 rand, now what does it costs 200,

Internet and Telephony, costs money... in South Africa, like with anything overtima it will come down, I put in a post these things take time and dont happen over night,

Let me ask you if you owned Telkom would you just cut costs, and give it away for next to nothing forgetting about the people you have to pay and infrastructure you have to put in place, its a long term game plan not a one day game.

Question for you how long have you been in the states Buster and what did ADSL cost when it initially came out and what does it cost today??

LOL @ phonelines to 98% who cant afford it..

dj_sam_atha - Do you have any idea that Telkom removed millions of landlines from rural areas and less fortunate areas who DID have access before Telkom felt the risk of losing equipment/money is bigger than Helping/offering something at decent cost. Also the removal of thousands of employees, I guess they couldnt afford working for Telkom(I bet they had to pay Telkom monthly rental fees to work for them) whahaha!~

Telkom in a whole do not OWN jack **** of what they have today, it was all government owned, our dads tax money years and years to keep the system going. Sometimes I see this as just another black empowerment project gone wrong after Apartheid, the few blacks gaining from this high up(I can name them literally on my hand starting with Pinki ;p) and the first people to remove access from being poor black people majority based.

These ARE facts, wake up or please get the hell away from your keyboard.

dj_sam_antha, with the comments you have made, i can only deduce you are one of the following:

a) a share holder
b) an employee
c) totaly ignorant to the state of telecomunications in south africa

Oh, if you are either a or b, then you will also get a free c.

Ish, people like this annoy me.

dj_sam_antha, why do 75% of this country not have access to basic telephonic services?

Yeah, I do realise... that they removed cable ..from rural areas...,

I bet you are the first to complain when someone has stolen a cable and you cant get access, who ever thought there would be value in that copper????

The 98% comment, was buster's I was merely using it as a reference, so dont point your attack at me,

Like I said in the beginning, I was merely complimenting telkom, on the service they have delivered to me, and I am sure quite a few others that have just neglected to say thank you,

I have continually stated I know things can get better through out this thread, that i am have never denied..

But, like always you neglect to read and most of you immediatly see "telkom" and start bashing them on here..as well as the person...who wrote it...

grins **PACK OF WOLVES** I tell ya!

AS for

A) the answer is no!

B) the answer is no!

C) the answer is no!

You get a D for free Someone who has had a pleasant experience as a user, and on the whole has been extrememly happy with my adsl, originally when ADSL came out it cost roughly,

R1000,00 including ISP and Line Rental, today you can get that for roughly, R700, with a 20 Gb Cap, things have gotten better, so lets not go there, cause if you disagree I say I will take the extra R300 rand from each one of you that disagrees and give it to a charity of MYADSL's choice!

its a sad day if you think that lowering already insane prices just a smidge can actually spur off a post about how good telkom is doing...

this is funny... people like this make it a damn requirement to inform our nation of telecoms. why would you say thank you for 1 small thing that you are paying for? after being robbed blind for many years? we need TELEVISION!!! LOTS of ads running the same truths over and over again. On the radio as well! Come on!

there is NO way prices are coming down much more if something isnt done to cut off some Telkom fingers. its still such a robbery. its more expensive because its new? ITS NOT NEW! it has been used in other countries for MANY years! WIMAX is new. mebe even IBURST, but NOT adsl. its old and cheap.

We need some CIA contacts to unbrainwash our SA citizens. anyone in texas who wants to do some charity work?

omg,

c) totaly ignorant to the state of telecomunications in south africa

without a doubt. and no, u obviously cant judge urself on that one.

Someone invents something, its brilliant but not that many people know about it so not that many people buy it, therefore it is made in small factories and costs lots of money.

The lucky few early adopters spread the word, everyone else says wow that sounds good i want to get me one of those. Demand rises. More and/or larger factories start making more of these things, using more automation. Price comes down.

Cycle repeats ad infinitum resulting in very good cheap products.

If im not wrong this doesn't apply to Telkom ADSL because it started loooong before we here in sunny SA ever heard of broadband (erm, so called). Prices here should be much closer to other countries because Telkom didn't invent anything they're just selling us a truly tried and tested technology (which is now very cheap) at exorbitant prices because they can.
