Thanks Audi. . . .for nothing.

I suspect they used a VAG com cable for diagnostics. If the brake pads were not connected it wouldn't show up. It might not be original brake pads, why won't they connect it?
Also does the motorplan cover brake pads?

I thought all guys check their tyres and brake pads regularly, maybe its just me.

Not defending the stealerships.

yep , brake pads are covered by motorplan.

I agree with you, as a driver you need to check tires/brake pads and inspect eveyrthing.

Unless he does not drive the car , he should have noticed that something is wrong with the brakes.

Thanks for the replies. Pics of the pads coming soon.

To answer some of the questions, firstly they told me at the dealership when I took it in that they took off the wheels and checked and there was no problems found. The brake pads I have in my possession tell a very different story.

With regard to checking the brakes, it is the first thing I wanted to do, but hey actually quite hidden and difficult to see through the mag. I guess I could have taken the wheels off myself, but I trusted Audi's response that all was well with the car.

I honestly did not really notice the brakes were worn, stopping seemed pretty much the same as always except for the occasional noise which prompted my first visit to Audi. However now that they have been replaced I can notice a difference in the braking, it is definitely sharper.

I certainly feel that Audi Northcliff were well aware even on my first visit that the brakes all round were buggered but chose not to do anything about it as my motor plan was nearly up. I will be taking this further as this is not on. Its not about the money, I can deal with that. Its the principal and most importantly the safety of myself and even more importantly my wife and kids.

Pics: You be the judge.

Wow, that is criminal. Your dealership was endangering your life by neglecting to do their job. Those pics are scary. Almost time for a lawyers letter to the manager.

You really should contact Audi SA - When I had a Audi I got calls from Audi SA to enquire about QOS from the dealers - They quite serious about service excellence - They even once wanted to fit hidden cameras in my Audi just to check on the mechanics when I sent it for service, so yeah let Audi SA know about this.

Yip thats the reality of it. As I mentioned my mechanic was shocked. He A couldn't believe how worn they were and B couldn't believe that Audi did nothing about this.

Anyone have a email contact for anyone at Audi SA?

Ask them for the signed off checklist from January which shows what they checked.

I was not implying that you should have checked them, I was referring to the dealership missing it twice ;)

When her car was out of MP I took it to my mechanic down the road. R750 and 6 hours later and her car was perfectly fixed. Audi service is shocking.

Thing is people believe that only the agents can service their car and do a better job. These guys don't actually have proper mechanics, the people that work there have been trained to plug in a diagnostic computer and swap out parts until the problem goes away. They can't actually troubleshoot a problem like a old school mechanic that knows what's cutting.

When it comes to mechanics and competence you can find a decent one by word of mouth, where I live there are two of them one operating from his house and the other has a small shop, both are good at what they do so finding a slot with them is like finding a slot with a good dentist but in emergencies they always make a plan.

Imho VW are pretty useless so I'd imagine Audi is similar. They couldn't even diagnose a flat battery.

+1 But I guess this can happen on any make of car. Moral of the story is to always take your car to a mechanic you trust if you suspect something is wrong with it.

Spot on. Old school mechanics are few and far between. The guy I use doesn't have a fancy workshop, doesn't have a cappuccino machine nor a hot service lady that smiles when I walk in, but the guy sure knows his cars and when I leave my car with him I know it is going to be fixed and properly.

Whatever happened with this?

In a nutshell, nothing. Audi came back with bs excuse after excuse, they told me I must bring the pads back and they will decide if they were in the wrong but essentially say they were not responsible, I didn't bother, I wrote it off as a lesson learnt. Never again though.

quite scary stuff, I was planning to take my car to Audi Airport for a service in a few weeks time.

Can anyone reccomend a reliable dealer (for servicing)?

audi aint getting my money... they were gambling with a customers life here

spot on with Ponder - 99% of dealerships dont know their elbow from their arses when it comes to diagnosing faults. Plug the little computer, do a check and replace fluids. thats about it.

I send my car (Audi TT and now a Seat Cupra) to Budler Motorsport in Turfontein, Jhb South.
Not the cheapest, but cheaper then dealerships and fantastic work.

about a year ago i needed to do a cambelt service on the Audi.

Audi quote - 13k
Budler - 4.5k including a dyno tune.

My mechanic was pretty amazed how bad the condition of the brakes where. He also said the wire that is connected to set off the worn brake light was not even connected!!
to my knowledge and from experience, if you unplug any of the brake pads wire the brake light come on. was the it on when you take it to your mech?
