The 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup Thread

Question.
For those that favored NZ to win, would you still be up in arms about how the winner was chosen if NZ had won in the exactly the same way that Eng did?

In fact if SA tied with Eng in the final, and eventually won on a stupid rule, what would be the percentage of complaints from SA supporters.
Given the way the rules have screwed SA over the years (and in one instance we used the rules to screw ourselves over) I honestly wouldn't give a hoot how we got the trophy in the euphoria of the win. However in later years you might look back and wonder if that was really the right way to win....?

In terms of the World Cup would have preferred NZ mainly because the whole "Big 3" thing pisses me off royally but am not that fussed that England won. I think a far better way of awarding it would be top position from the league stages which would have seen England getting the cup too so not too fussed. I did enjoy this pic though...

I think it's more raw emotion than rules imo.

So this is a tough one.. for me, I don't support either of the teams.. but being robbed of the CWC because the umpire wrongly awarded an extra run is ridiculous (they literally stood around for 5 min or so and yet it wasnt corrected.. wtf). If anything this world cup has shown that where prediction or where non-humanly possible reflection is needed(edge detect).. the 3rd umpire assisted with technology should be used.

If the review system stays as it is.. it will mean that the ICC has learnt absolutely nothing and the game will suffer controversial decisions which opens it up for umpire fraud. Don't get me wrong, I fully understand why they went this route but the decisions made throughout this tournament was horrid. with a few moments of brilliance.. out shadowed but pathetic decisions which umpires should not be making.

If it were an SA based final and SA won on the technicality i'd also feel a bit off about it being a stolen win. The English will now have to live with the fact that Nzl and every other team will tell them bluntly in pressure situations they need the umpires to award them runs to win crunch games :p

Have to say it's Karmic justice for NZ to lose by hands of Ben Stokes.

What I like about the English and why I support them is that their structure gives opportunities to everyone who's worth their weight.
Expect to see more kolpak signings.

Not with Boris "no deal Brexit" Johnson as Prime Minister. I imagine a few Kolpak players that are signed beyond 2020 will be concerned...

i still find it weird and amusing that there are africans who actually like cricket
