The Giulia is one of the best driving sports sedans on the market today.

Verdict

What you have here is one of the best kept sport sedan secrets on the market. It looks fantastic, is from a brand that you might not see very often, and doesn’t come across like it’s trying too hard or being pretentious like some German offerings. The downside is that $50,000+ price puts it right in line with those very German offerings, some of which are genuinely better. The used market is another factor. Used Giulias are absurdly cheap with low miles, even ones that are just a year old. New ones can be had with steep discounts though.

But even if you go for a new one, don’t let any preconceived notions about Alfa Romeo stop you from driving a Giulia. You won’t regret it.

Electric Alfa Romeo keeps saloon shape despite SUV popularity

Alfa will not "become an SUV brand" as it signs off classic silhouette for next Giulia, and plots GTV and Duetto EVs

The electric Alfa Romeo Giulia, due on sale by 2026, will retain its classic saloon silhouette despite the overwhelming popularity of SUVs.

The Giulia EV is one of two new D-segment cars Alfa Romeo will launch in 2025 and 2026, the other being an electric Stelvio replacement. A large E-segment model will follow in 2027, in the mould of the Porsche Cayenne, meaning SUVs will account for four out of the five cars in Alfa's core line-up.

But, speaking at preview event for the new Milano crossover, Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato has emphasised the electric replacement for the Giulia will remain a traditional saloon “despite the fact this segment is suffering”.

Asked by Autocar if he believes it is important Alfa sells non-SUV models, he said: “I strongly believe that when you speak about electrification, you speak about aero, and when you speak about aero, you speak about ‘Berlina’, or sedan.”

“This type of silhouette will come back,” he added. “I don’t want to become an SUV brand, even if the world is switching to SUVs."

Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Giulia EVs confirmed for 2025 and 2026

Sporting saloon and SUV will be based on new Stellantis STLA Large platform, upgraded with 800V electricals

The next-generation Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV will make the switch to electric power when it arrives in 2025. It will be followed by a new Giulia saloon in 2026, and Alfa Romeo will go EV-only a year after.

The duo will be the first STLA Large-based cars to use 800V electricals, hinting that they will fully exploit the new Stellantis platform’s potential in hot Quadrifoglio guise.

The quickest STLA Large cars will crack the 0-62mph sprint in around 2.0sec – almost half the 3.8sec and 3.9sec times claimed by the current V6-engined Stelvio QV and Giulia QV.

The new Dodge Charger Daytona – the first performance car to use the platform but with 400V electricals – offers outputs of up to 670bhp and so can hit 60mph in 3.3sec.

It also packs a 93.9kWh (usable) battery pack, which delivers a range of 317 miles in the 496bhp R/T model, according to the US’s EPA test cycle (which is tougher than the WLTP regimen used in Europe).
