The all-new, singing, dancing Telkom

"75% have TV, only 11% of those have DStv so 64% dont" did this fool go to school? Learn some basic maths first dumbass.

Telkom Media’s answer was to design a bouquet of 15 channels that middle-income consumers can subscribe to for less than R100.

Excluding the R90 for the phone line, excl the R300+ for ADSL2+....

That's way more than the R400 for DSTV which is all inclusive.....

RIP telkom media

Why is it that Telkom prefers to venture into satellite broadcast business and offer better/cheaper products but on their own network where the same thing can be done for a whole lot cheaper they simply refuse? Oh yes, no competition to speak of.

Unfortunately Wyzak i have a grumbilng in my tummy that telkom media are going to be packaging the IPTV product as something other than adsl2.
Basically it seems that they will be using adsl2 technology but they will be branding it and packaging it so that you cannot use it for normal internet.
By doing that it seems like they will be dodging the bullet when it comes to the other normal charges.

So expect in the future that ADSL2 is going to be termed as a pipe or enabler technolgy and not an endpoint product.

In the future you will have for instance IPTV and Hyperband internet(just a name) according to telkom. Both these services will run on telkom's infrastructure but will be billed completely separately.

Yeah probably armitage. The only thing we can be assured of of Telkom is that they will offer something that is 10 years old and charge bleeding-edge technology tariffs with stone-age service.

Matthyser says Telkom Media has a sizeable budget available to it
Hmmm, I wonder where all that money came from?
I would rather gouge my eyes out with a rusty spoon than watch telkom tv.

Hopefully this will force DSTV to at long last improve their offerings and maybe reduce their charges. Their almost as bad as telkom when it comes to raping customers.

Specially for the benefit of Rikus Matthyser:
Code:
100% - 11% == 89%
In other words, 89% of the alleged 75% that have a TV, are not currently MonoChoice customers...

Where did Telkodemonopolies get all these Steves and Rikuses from, was there a reject bin sale that we don't know about where Telkodemonopolies bought the entire batch?
My first thought after reading the thread title was "Is telkom on strike?"
ROFL :D

The sad truth is that Telkodemonopolies is permanently on strike - ergo the failure to provide the services we pay for - and certainly not at the same level compared to the exorbitant prices we pay :(.

We have identified that 75% of households in South Africa have TVs, yet only 11% of those use DStv,” he says. “So 64% of the TV-owning market doesn’t have access to paid TV.

It's called Chinese maths :P

The Proteas are looking for spinners. They need not crack their heads because there are lots of them at Telkom...
I still say 90% of what comes out of Telkom's mouth is bullsh!t.

In an earlier story they have already made it clear that in order to receive IPTV (at an additional cost of R320pm) you must already have an ADSL 2+ internet connection (and have already paid for the line and adsl rentals and your normal bandwdith fees.)

So the IPTV portion will be rather like buying an additional local bandwidth account from an ISP that pipes directly into Telkom's TV content.

So the rationale is: We suck at our core business, so lets turn ourselves into a white brand of naspers and it'll all be alright.

WTF? The real tragedy is that they've scammed enough money off of us to make a "strategic" decision this stupid.

What are the chances that Telkom will come up with a workable, efficient and cheap way to have IPTV run in SA? One of the biggest problems I have with multichoice is how inflexible they are. I don't want 8 sport channels and parliament TV.

Of course, we'll still be capped at 3gb on a 20mb line even if they do decide to let us have it for dsl.

and its the same with adsl not many can afford it, so if they cant afford dstv whats going to make them get adsl with IPTV with a computer?? that will cost 4x more than basic dstv

Not to mention that the households he is claiming as not having DSTV are mostly in areas that also do not have ADSL.
