What was the need for him to mention that Obama is also black? He could have omitted the race, or even chosen any other leader. It's clearly a shot at Zuma. One would usually say stuff like that to mask a racist comment because they know it's true intent. You know, the "I have black friends, but most blacks are so and so" types.
Unlikely to be that early, unless there is a more serious split from the ANC. I just hope that whenever it happens, that the ANC eventually relinquishes a 51% majority, that no party grows to more than 35% of the vote.

Hypothetical question, if the ANC were to split what would be the main dividing factors and who would the majority of current ANC voters support?
The SACP or COSATU splitting with the ANC, most likely due to some labour or legislative issues. That said, the split is highly unlikely.
Majority of the ANC voter base will continue to vote for the ANC.

Even deeper than that it smacks of "see what can happen when blacks have education"?
Who cares if Zuma only has Std 5 (is that true btw), the question is whether he can lead the majority of the people and appease the others.
My mum was "highly educated" in her family with std 6 and had to move to Cape Town to go work. My Dad had Std 2 had to go work selling fruit at 10, did std 3 at nightschool-long story short my parents evbentually had a cartage business (still one arm behind back with all the restrictions on non white businessmen) and dad a leader in church etc. Education would have been great and being born to generations of uni educated family even better as a headstart, but his education didn't determine his ability to lead.
People here think I have a chip on shoulder, but all I do is just call out the **** I see posted here by people pining for apartheid utopia, and will keep doing so like it or not.
That would be a good thing. It is not a problem of race, but that one party has too much mandate. On the other hand it could be like Aus where it is tweedledum and tweedledee at 50% each give or take a decimal...only works wherte you have a happy middleclass of 80% of population and no threats or any big issues. Damn, they can't even sort out the refugee issue, both as conservative as the other.

Even a stump can grow again. Things in Zim are not ideal, but much better than they were a few years ago. Even if SA ends up in a similar position to Zim, the people who love this country will work hard to fix it. Who knows, one of the future ANC leaders may just be the kind of person we want to have running this country. Remember, democracy in SA is 18 years old this year and the ones who have benefited from AA/BBEEE are on the rise.
Just have some hope.

offcourse Zim is a better place than a couple years back. They managed to displace half off their population to other countries. Leaving those left behind with double the resources/capita.
Now if they can get rid of another 2/3 of their population it would be perfect...
