The problem is not the journalism in itself (even though I regard it in the same category as garbage collecting on dustbin day and view journalists in the same light as the bergies who rummage through my bin on dustbin day). The problem is that, all of this- its the pursuit of money. One can argue this to the end of time but the result is the same. It all comes down to money. Making money is one thing but it would be nice if it was done properly.
I don't care for the news (and that includes the news here and on other sites), so in 9/10 cases I don't fall for the CB. There is however a problem when criticism is dealt with harshly- I have, in my time, given even the likes of Chris Yelland a go... but he doesn't implement harsh sanctions or go after me with lawyers (if the stories about this place are to be believed).
That's why I don't have a DISQUS account and I usually don't click, I get my news elsewhere and when I have something to say I will say it, but 9/10 times I play the ball not the man, because playing the man is very dangerous- I would say you can get away with a lot more criticism on other news sites' engagement platforms aka forums/Disqus etc..
This site has a reputation, not a good one- I am keeping my opinion to myself but from IT professionals and other I work with on an ongoing basis, this place is known as click bait capital. This site has been blocked at the office for some time, due to the fact that one of the articles long ago did not sit well with our MD, and knowing how the site management react to criticism we decided to just block the site and the emails that get sent because as someone once said, this place tends to approach what was once called the yellow page tabloid journalism you used to get in Germany.
I just think that if you are able to call out the heads of state, and SoEs, you should be accountable by the same standard, and tolerate the criticism, not resort to banning and legal threats
