Sunday is the most popular day for places like Mzolis, often referred to as 'Shisa Nyama' (Burn meat). Most big SA townships have places like Mzolis and you often see tourists on Sundays til late.

Meanwhile, the response of police to the fatal weekend hijacking has been lambasted by the SA Institute for Race Relations.

Officers expressed shock at the murder of the 28-year-old bride.

The widower has told the Daily Mail his bride suggested they take a detour through the township because she wanted to see ’real’ African life beyond their hotel.

Institute spokesperson Frans Cronje said officers should not be surprised as someone is killed in Gugulethu every two-and-a-half days.

“It left us with a sense of unease that it would take the murder of a British national, as serious as that is, for the police to express their shock,” he said.

Police on Tuesday afternoon stressed that several leads are being followed in a bid to solve the case.

Could not agree more with the Institute! It is seemingly OK if our own citizens get murdered, but now, all of a sudden the SAPS show us that they can do some real detective work? Not good !

Meanwhile, the Cape Grace Hotel has denied claims that the hijacked vehicle transporting the couple was part of its fleet.

The Cape Grace’s Nicki Linde said the hotel had nothing to do with their transport arrangements.

“I’m able to confirm at this stage that it was not a Cape Grace vehicle that the couple was using and we didn’t arrange the transfer for them. Unfortunately I cannot give any other comments,” she said

I wonder if the hotel warned them about certain areas. Then again I wonder if the couple ignored the warning in search of the 'real africa'

Blu, do you really think this is a simple hijack, murder rape and kill? ... Incidentally, which is very uncommon for the Cape?

He was a rich man according to the articles I read. Did you read somewhere that he took out insurance on her life? I do not recall reading that.

Not to fight with you, but a fair number of tourists have been killed in SA ... it is rather unrealistic to question all those events as being pre-planned.

To me, it seems that they did not know the country and its dangers and made a fatal error in judgment.
 
Well I only mention life insurance because the other motives for spouse murder are a bit insensitive given that he isn't a suspect yet. Especially if you take statistics into account.

In murder investgations, the "intimate partner" (i.e. husband/lover/boyfriend) is always an automatic suspect, but often gets eliminated as such quite early on in the investigation.
