The Asic thread

Add to that... Neither Bitmart or Baikal are shy to just tell you sorry, no more stock, you have to wait for next batch. Some folk bought batch 1 back in August and are being told to wait for December batch... No thanks.

Update on the L3+ on alibaba - I'm struggling to find the sellers I found the first time. Firstly, I was able to sort by price on the web UI using my phone (it's not there on the desktop web ui), also the sellers in the price range all want you to contact them direct and/or pay with western union - all red flags. I'll holler if that changed. Going to try on my phone in a minute.

I found the same, all pricing is completely different on desktop. The few that have contacted me back all want stupid amounts

For D3 owners. Mine was operating above 80C on one board (usually board 3). I figure this has to do with the layout of the boards - they're not symmetrical. There's a smaller heat sink on the back of the board and a larger one on the processor side (stands to reason). On board 1, the larger one is close to the side of the miner, on board 3, it's close to the back of board 2. For whatever reason, the boards on either side (1 and 3) get a bit less airflow than the middle board and as a result, board 3, with it's processor heat sinks close to the middle where there's more heat, the temperature is highest.

In an effort to get the temperature below 80, I found that underclocking it slightly does the trick. I set clock speed as follows:

Now board 3 sits below 80C

Hashrate is down slightly from an average of 19k+ to 18k+ but that's fine with me

I recommend others with the same issue do the same to improve lifespan and reliability.
I found that I would lose a board from time to time while mining and had to reset to get it back. Hopefully it'll be rock solid now.

Custom D3 FW:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2346161.0

Been chatting to some people who have applied this firmware, says it brings power down nicely and it runs stable.

What about hashrate? I think I should try that.
Another interesting thing I found when disassembling the D3 was that despite my order for both going in at the same time and the delivery happening at the same time, the boards are different version numbers. The one has 3x v1.25 boards and the other has 3x v1.26 boards.

"Profitable" is very subjective. Personally, I wouldn't, hence aborted tat little project even before I got my miner, but I suppose as long as the balance at the end of the day is a positive, there is profit to be made.

I know it's not the thousands people rushed to get their hands on, if I may ask, what is the daily payouts?

Better. I'm guessing that's what this FW does? I haven't been able to get particulars from others.

Yeah, it lets you tweak it and make it quieter, cooler and consume less power while still maintaining a reasonable hashrate.

It's honestly not something I've ever looked into. Might search around for an L3+ and S9 custom FW, see what I can get done.

At those rates it makes no sense to try find one.

Will most likely order some more L3's then

At this point I think an L3+ or S9 will serve you much better than a D3. I still like to think that at some point there will be another x11 boom, but I have nothing to substantiate that with. SHA-256 and Scrypt have a lot of options to ensure a certain level of longevity.

Suppose the best is to mix up between the S9s and L3's, only problem is what are the chances of more S9s anytime soon?

Agreed where would one even begin to look for them at reasonable times and delivery timeframe..

If you want quick, eBay, though you will pay high.
If you want cheaper, Bitmain, though delivery will only be in March.
