The Audi R8 Thread

Except you obviously are being rude, and in the process looking stupid yourself. The cars look very similar from the links you posted. I've seen a bunch of new TT's in town, and every time I wasn't right on top of it I had to spend a second or two to check whether or not they were R8s.

If you're going to spend millions on a sports car, get one that can't be mistaken for a TT.

No ways. The only similarities between the cars are

1) The shape of the front grill, and;
2) The side profile of the car in terms of long hood and cabin shape.

That being said, I think the TT looks better.

They don't look very similar at all. Should we play 'Spot the difference' to prove it?

Bryn might find that very challenging.

Bryn, if you're not a fan, feel free to say so. But at te moment you're either trolling or you need to find a good eye doctor. The only resemblance between those cars are the four interlinked circles on the front and back.

Sorry, you guys are right. I'm being delusional.

Oh wait. Nope - seems you're fanboys:

It's good that you've accepted it. Well done for working through these things.

Obviously the R8 needs something to set it apart - clearly it's the rear grilles and side blades.

If you buy an R8 be sure to drive everywhere in reverse so everyone knows that you aren't driving a TT.

Audi R8 Coupe V10 plus selection 24h

"In 2015 the Audi R8 LMS won the 24 Hours Nürburgring on its debut. The GT3 car's victory marked the start of a successful year of motor racing for Audi Sport. The brand now celebrates the R8 LMS with the "selection 24h" special edition, a homage to its tally of 323 wins in national and international race assignments since 2009.

The "selection 24h", being built in a limited production run of 24, is based on the Audi R8 Coupé V10 plus. Its 5.2-liter V10 mid-engine develops 449 kW (610 hp) and accelerates the top model of the Audi R8 car line from 0 to 100 km/h (62.1 mph) in a mere 3.2 seconds, before advancing to a top speed of 330 km/h (205.1 mph). That makes the Audi R8 Coupé V10 plus both the fastest and most powerful production Audi of all time. A newly developed quattro drive distributes its power fully variably between both sets of wheels. The suspension, the aerodynamics configured to handle high downforces and the operating concept featuring the Audi virtual cockpit are all motorsport-inspired. That is because Audi developed the second generation of the R8 in parallel with the GT3 racing model R8 LMS. Close cooperation between race car engineers, motorsport specialists and developers has brought both models a significant boost in performance."

mmm, that fixed wing version is awesome.

As for people saying it looks like a TT, only in so far as they both have four wheels. Even though the latest TT has been made a lot more macho, the R8 is streets ahead in terms of aggression. Happy they've kept those distinctive side air intakes!

Top model R3mill...ouch

Here's how much you'll pay for the new Audi R8 in SA

The new Audi R8 has officially launched in South Africa, and we’ve managed to lay our hands on pricing.

At launch, the local line-up of the second-generation R8 includes two derivatives: the V10 (which comes in at R2 630 500) and the V10 Plus (which is priced from R2 970 000), both fitted with the Ingolstadt automaker’s quattro all-wheel drive system and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Yes, that means the old V8 option (and the manual gearbox) is no longer. The Audi R8 Spyder, meanwhile, is scheduled to arrive in South Africa in 2017.

The standard V10 coupe’s naturally aspirated 5,2-litre mill is good for 397 kW and 540 N.m, allowing it to sprint from standstill to 100 km/h in a claimed 3,5 seconds.

The V10 Plus, meanwhile, makes 449 kW and 560 N.m (yes, just like the Lamborghini Huracan), which sees the obligatory dash to three figures fall a full three-tenths to 3,2 seconds. In addition to this performance boost, the flagship model also gains a few choice styling upgrades, including a fixed rear wing fashioned from carbon-fibre.

We’ve already had an early taste of the new Audi R8 V10 Plus, putting it to the test on a 700 km road-trip. You can read about that in the upcoming August 2016 issue of CAR magazine.

In the meantime, here’s the official pricing:

Audi R8 V10 quattro: R2 630 500
Audi R8 V10 Plus quattro: R2 970 000
