I follow a YouTube channel from a guy called Stradman. His daily drive is a TT and he makes most of his movies about his Lamborghini.

In a recent video he noted that he now has 30k miles on it, which apparently is the threshold after which supercars lose value. So I wondered what the situation is with an R8, which may be close to a favorite car for us reading the thread.

Had a look at AutoTrader, a few 2008 models on offer. For a 100 000km you can get it for R660k or R750k. Or R750k gives a 50 000km version. I'm guessing all had a 5yr/100k service plan, so you would want FSH for 2014-date.

What are your thoughts on when you don't even consider an R8 (or Porsche etc) in terms of km ?

Ever wanted to emblazon some sort of slogan across the side-blades of your shiny new Audi R8? Nope, us neither, but the Ingolstadt-based automaker says it is now offering this very service.

The German brand says it has “developed a process” for the partial matting of painted surfaces. A special powder roughens the clear lacquer on the surface to a depth of a few thousandths of a millimetre so that individual markings become visible.

With this process, the Audi exclusive programme is now offering personalised design of the side-blades for the R8.

Audi says that since the desired symbols or words are applied to components after being painted, the process can easily be integrated into normal series production.

“The method of partial matting is an excellent example of the flexibility of our production. Being able to implement individualisation in normal series production is one of the aims of our smart factory,” said Professor Doctor Hubert Waltl, member of the board of management for production at Audi AG.

Painting an automobile consists of – in addition to the cathodic dip coating to protect against corrosion – at least three further coats: filler, base coat and the transparent lacquer as the top protective coat. But with the new process, a template of the desired pattern is first placed on the component. A blasting system then sprays a special powder onto the surface, roughening the clear lacquer, which creates the effect of a “matt and homogeneous pattern”.

“With this process, we modify the brilliance of the paintwork and the intensity of its sheen. Light hitting the surface is then reflected diffusely by the individualised surface areas. This makes it appear matt,” explained project manager Doctor Erhard Brandl.

The brand says the process is “weather resistant, unlike conventional lettering and stickers, and it has a much more high-quality appearance”. At present, components with a size up to one metre by one metre can be processed in this way.

Audi reckons its paint shops can apply “almost any pattern that a customer might desire”, but adds that it must “not affect any third-party rights”.

The R8 is the first model for which this technology is offered through the Audi exclusive individualisation programme, but the automaker plans to extend the offer to other models in the future.

ABT GIVES AUDI R8 AND RS6 EVEN MORE POWER!

ABT, the German tuner with a long history of modifying Volkswagen Group products, has now turned its attention to two of Audi’s most powerful models: the RS6 Avant and the R8.

The modifications include an extensive visual upgrade as well as some performance enhancements.

The RS6, which is blisteringly quick in standard guise, has been boosted to 519 kW and 880 N.m thanks to the fitment of an ABT Power S control unit. To make the wagon look more intimidating it has been fitted with an array of carbon-fibre trim, 22-inch GR alloy wheels and a stainless steel exhaust system.

The interior doesn’t change too much, although “RS6+” badges are scattered around the cabin. A plaque indicating which of the 50 limited units the owner is driving is also included.

And the R8? Well, interestingly, the power revisions here are not quite as extensive. The supercar employs a standard ABT Power unit and a steel exhaust system, bumping overall output to 463 kW (a modest increase of 15 kW). The ABT R8 also benefits from a coilover suspension system and a weight-loss of 50 kg.

The bodykit, however, is somewhat braver, and includes new bumpers, a fresh rear wing and chunky side skirts. A set of 19-inch ABT High Performance ER-F wheels is also part of the package, although a 20-inch design can be specified.

Interior revisions are similar to those found on the RS6, although the cabin has gained plenty of Alcantara.

Both of these cars will be on display at Geneva next week.

Audi R8 Coupe Audi Sport Edition

Silver, red and black are the colors of Audi Sport - and of the new special edition R8 Coupé model bearing its name. Along with specific components in the cockpit and body, the colors heighten the car's motorsport feeling. Audi is unveiling the exclusive, high-performance sports car for the first time, at the 2017 New York International Auto Show. The car is being built in a limited run of 200 and can be ordered from May 2017 onward.

The Audi R8 is the brand's sporty spearhead - on the road and on the race track. Its DNA is endowed with know-how earned from the many success stories at Audi Sport, particularly in endurance racing. "In 2016, we had the most successful year in the history of Audi Sport customer racing, our customer sport department," said Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Audi Sport GmbH. "With the R8 LMS we brought home 24 titles, scored 85 race victories and tallied up over 100 other podium finishes."

And now the Audi Sport Edition is bringing more motorsport emotion to the production car realm with its expressive interplay of the colors silver, red and black, and exclusive interior equipment. In addition to floret silver, matt or gloss, the selection of paint finishes includes mythos black and ibis white. Regardless of what body color the customer chooses, the sideblades and exterior mirrors in brilliant red produce a striking contrast and are just one of the visual highlights. Accenting the sophisticated exterior are the front spoiler, Singleframe grille and diffuser insert, all in titanium black - yet another facet of the car's distinctive character. At the rear, trapezoidal tailpipe trims in gloss black enhance the dynamic effect of the car's design.

Audi Sport GmbH has equipped the special edition with 20-inch wheels of forged aluminum, with 245/30 front tires and 305/30 rear tires. The rims in an eye-catching 10-spoke Y design feature a gloss anthracite black paint finish and stand out with their silver edges. And there's a very special touch: The rim flanges in a gloss turned finish are embellished by an Audi Sport logo. On the R8 V10 version, a high-gloss red finish lend the calipers of the powerful steel brakes a blazing look. And on the version with the plus engine variant, the ceramic brake discs are fitted with calipers in an anthracite-colored finish.

The interior welcomes driver and passenger with illuminated door sill trims. Their aluminum inlays bear the Audi Sport label complete with the red rhombus, and the model's exclusiveness is indicated by the inscription "1/200". The color palette of the interior harmonizes perfectly with the car's exterior. The door trims and sport seats are in fine Nappa leather, with a color combination of black and express red. The seat backrests are embossed with the R8 emblem - an exclusive design element for the special edition model. Contrasting stitching in dark silver accents the steering wheel, door trims and seats.

The car's sporty character is underscored by decorative inlays in a gloss carbon finish. The inlays are used at places including the surrounding frame of the Audi virtual cockpit, on the air vents and on the center console. The flat-bottomed, leather-covered performance steering wheel in three-spoke design is standard on the special edition model. It is emblazoned with an R8 emblem, and the black leather-covered rim of the wheel has an express red stripe at the 12 o'clock position, in keeping with the car's motorsport heritage. The marker is a visual aid to help drivers keep the steering wheel centered when challenging their driving skills.

The famously powerful V10 mid-engine starts up by means of one satellite control button, and the driver uses a second button to adjust the settings of Audi drive select, the dynamic handling system. Two additional buttons and a rotary switch are used to control the exhaust flaps and the performance mode, which includes three more driving programs - dry, wet and snow. They adapt the handling even more precisely to the respective road conditions.

The Audi Sport Edition of the R8 Coupé will be built in a limited production run of 200 cars, and orders can be placed worldwide beginning in May 2017. In Germany prices of the model powered by the V10 variant with 397 kW (540 hp) start at EUR 181,900. And prices of the car with the V10 plus variant, which delivers 449 kW (610 hp) of power, start at EUR 205,800. Deliveries will begin in late summer of 2017.

AUDI LAUNCHES A (COLOURFUL) LIMITED EDITION R8

What we have here is the somewhat awkwardly named Audi R8 Coupé Audi Sport Edition, a special edition version of the German supercar that boasts a unique colour scheme inside and out.

Limited to just 200 units worldwide, the special edition pays homage to the racing success that the R8 has achieved over the years, and also celebrates the official launch of Audi Sport, which replaces Quattro GmbH as the Ingolstadt automaker’s performance division.

The silver, red and white colour scheme mimics that seen on the recently revealed Audi R8 LMS GT4, which also made its debut at the New York International Auto Show.

The Audi Sport Edition R8 boasts a special set of 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 245/30 front and 305/30 rear tyres. Obligatory red brake calipers are also included.

Changes to the interior are minimal, but include new black-and-red upholstery with contrast stitching and a handful of carbon-fibre inlays.

The Audi R8 Coupé Audi Sport Edition can be ordered with the standard or Plus V10 engine, with a starting price of €205 800 (about R2,89-million).
