The Audi Thread

How do you guys feel about audi a4 1.8T B8 but high mileage multitronic ? Is it to risky should I go rather go for manual when looking at high milage ones?

I would prefer an automatic for the traffic.

Was looking at these 2 cars:

http://www.gumtree.co.za/a-cars-bak...tion-118kw-for-sale/1001607782990910357545609

I want to get me smoother ride as I am now driving with the traffic in morning and evenings.

I fell in love with audi when I drove the the 2014 A3 1.4T with s-tronic gearbox ,it was a rental so I had nice time putting down my foot :P

So today my (possible) breather valve went. They're changing it now.

Says it may have something to do with the EPC light that came on a few weeks back

PCV? Common to go and a cheap/easy fix. Happened on my 2.0T too.

I'd go for option 2

Rather look for something around 100,000km IMO.

If a B8 is not affordable, go B7.

You don't seem to be having too much luck with cars :(
Not at all ; and it gets worse...

So they change the breather thing which is, as PP says, small and takes 30 minutes.

As I drive out the garage, the idling is rough - worse than it was. So I turned back and a pipe had popped off. They put it back and 90% better.

I leave for the office 7km away and the car gets worse and worse... I make 5km before it splutters to a stop. Engine light flashing.

Open bonnet and oil everywhere... So stuck on the side of the road again. My guess is piston or cylinder again.

PS Yesterday drove straight to them because I knew something was up. If your own car, you're very sensitive to everything it does. Shudder at idle was so slight they couldn't really pick it up

:wtf:

I think it's time to find another Audi branch.

.... and another piston.

2 cracked pistons 5 months apart

Yup.

A huge inconvenience though. Audi have no where near the number of courtesy cars that BMW or even Volvo have. With the Volvo, I didn't even give it thought. After fighting though, I got a new A1 S Tronic.

I suggested to Audi they give out Uber voucher.

Check this though that I found on their page. Almost seems this is an issue with the A5 :

I'm seeking any other individuals who are having trouble with there Audi A5 with what seems to be a "misfire".... My husbands A5 seems to have the problem as well as three other individuals we know with the exact same issue and Audi have no idea what is causing it... From changing all the cylinders, to changing the plugs what next??? Please let me know if anyone else has experienced this so I can take this further.

The engines are shared throughout so I wouldn't think it's specifically related to the A5. Plus the A5 is an A4.

You do know about the oil consumption issue on these engines? What's your oil usage like?

Check through these results - https://www.google.co.za/webhp?sour...n=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=2.0 tfsi cracked piston.

Yea - they said the same thing.

And while I do understand, I just find it odd that I have pistons go at 42,000km and 48,000km ; and this women pastes the same about an A5 ... and I know someone else with an A5 who also had. It isn't a super common issue. One of the salesman mentioned he suspects a certain batch/year. So far everyone I've heard of is 2010/2011 models. I've asked this women as well - so awaiting her reply.

Actually, not much. I don't think I've ever needed to and they only did at the service in November. The S4 though, that was often ... irritatingly so! It felt like every 2 months

My car had the oil issue resolved within 8 months of it being new (new piston rings). I'm struggling to understand why Audi wouldn't fix these issues when they test the vehicle on a long term basis.

It was indeed with a certain batch, from what I know, high oil usage was the sign. I have not heard much about cracked pistons.

Definitely go and post on the Audi Forum.

I think it had something to do with the wrong piston size. Probably a faulty batch and lack of QC.

Best advice would be to keep looking. Finding your Audi is like finding love.. you'll know it's the right one when you find it.
