The Audi Thread

Looking at getting a 2017 A3 Sedan and found one with the following specs/extra's.

Would like to know whether it's good value for money, been saving a while. Best deal I could find so far.

Upgrading from a 2005 Citi Golf. So will be a major jump.

Audi A3 Sedan 2017 1.4TFSI (12000km's on the odo)
Ibis White
Leather covered multi-function sports steering wheel, 3-spoke, with shift paddles
Storage compartment and luggage compartment
Audi drive select
Sport suspension (scared this might make the drive hard)
Panoramic glass roof
High-gloss package
Audi sound system (upgrade from the standard one)
Cast aluminium allow wheels, 5 spoke
Interior mirror with automatic anti-glare action, with light and rain sensor
LED headlights

The above for R399k including on the road fee's.

Planning to test drive it on Monday.

Looks decent, I would personally wait for one with Audi virtual cockpit + nav(forced to take nav to get the digital display). This is a 31k option :(

I did have a look around, but that puts it out of my budget. Personally I don't mind the old fashion dials.

@FiestaST I have been hammered for years to upgrade, finally taking the plunge. :P

If it were me, I would maybe go a year older ~ 2016 I've seen examples with under 30k on the clock fully spec'd for R50k - R75k less. My sister's fiance has the A3 sedan, fully spec'd as per what you are looking at, and he went to sell it or trade it in after a year and a half of owning it (which I know will always incur a shortfall) but, Audi's depreciate seriously quickly, and his shortfall was over R110k so it's just something to keep in mind :) Otherwise, it's a really rad car, sound system upgrade I find is fantastic, if you're sitting in the back where the subs are, in front you can't really tell much difference between it and my standard A1 system.

We Can Expect A New Audi Model Every 3 Weeks This Year

In a recent media communication from Audi, they indicated that more than 20 new launches will take place in 2018 which they are calling the “biggest model initiative in its history.”

They mention that it will be a challenging year with numerous phase-outs and its overall largest number of same-year model launches happening at once.

If we are expecting to see 20 new models this year, that roughly equates to a new model every three weeks from here on out.

We will see a new Q8, a host of redesigns to its existing lineup and a plethora of potential offerings in the electrified sector.

I speak under correction, but we don't seem to get bargains as good as you guys get in GP. There is a lot less stock here in CPT I always find when i browse around from time to time.

Sorry to be an ignoramus, but what's a shortfall? Disclaimer: I've never bought a car on HP nor traded one in before.

Edit: Is a shortfall the amount you have to pay in for the newer car after trading the old one in? Surely then that is very much dependent on the price of the newer car and not purely indicative of how much an Audi depreciates over time?

Shortfall is the difference between what you owe on the car and what you get when you trade it in

Ok, then on its own it's not a indication of how much an Audi depreciates over time as a portion of the shortfall is also due to the amount of interest that one paid on the loan. Market value at the time of trade in vs market value at the time of purchase would be a better indication of the depreciation I would think.

It's more a case of where in the loan period you traded the car in as well as the original deposit paid.

Or in simple terms how much you borrowed versus the original purchase price and then how much you still owe at the time of selling.

On a pure finance deal of course.

With a residual if you didn't put money aside you are going to have trouble which is why people often vote against those or consider them bad debt.

If you had a large deposit (say 25% and up) or pure cash trade in there should be no reason you have a shortfall unless maybe you took a stupidly long loan term with huge interest rate.

Actually had a good laugh at insurance providers and bank trying to sell me shortfall insurance recently without looking at the numbers because I had more than a 50% deposit.

If I write the car off tomorrow I actually make a profit.

My 2010 Audi A3 1.8T s-tronic is on 86,500km at present. Does this seem reasonable for a 90k km service at a non-Audi workshop? They come highly recommended from 2 colleagues.

estimate 90k service.png

This is actually more than Audi quoted me, but that was for a bi-annual service where they said I would be looking at an air filter, pollen filter and oil filter change only. The estimate on that was between 1.5k and 2k ex vat.

Looks good, make sure the oil is the right brand and rating for the engine. Sometimes they use sup par oil to save money.

You might also want to check when the oil change is due on the gearbox.

Seems about right. I paid R3k for my major service on my A4 TDI a week or two ago.

On another note, I’ll possibly be looking at moving out of my 2011 A4 2.0 TDI and getting a 2014 A3 Sedan 1.8 TFSI or a 2013 A5 Sportback 2.0 TDI.

Any pros and cons to the two?

Drove this today:
