Mike's was/is a beaut... Will say no more, considering his recent posts.

R20k yes, R50k no, but you do have some peace of mind in lower mileage.

Yeah, but there is also the issue of moving my old A4! Saffers seem to have a culture of trading rather than selling privately! Might be due to security concerns!!

In reality I need to spend at least R15k before she's good for market and then I could possibly get R80k for her. R15k net profit is not worth the effort IMHO!!

EDIT: What put me off Mike's A6 was the mileage. 175k is nothing for these engines and especially when the vehicle has been taken care of but for me it's more a psychological barrier.

Also, I anticipate better performance from the turbo aspirated diesel at altitude, but more importantly, better fuel consumption.

The down side is when diesel breaks, IT BREAKS!! And the TDI sounds like a tractor.... :o

Or you could post an honest ad to test the waters, telling potential buyers what needs doing. Could be a win win for both in that you flog it with minimal effort and the buyer gets a great deal in the end once everything has been fixed. Especially if you find someone who has a cousin whose friend fixes cars, etc.

I could not drive a stick again dude. Love the autos.

Anyway, I am having a bit of a change of heart. Just had the most fun I have had in a car in a while. Playing around here on the Bluff.

BM tested me at the robots. Gave him a freaking hiding of note. Can't tell you anything except it was a 3 series (new one). Never got to see the back of it :cool:
The acceleration is INSANE. This thing throws you back in your seat and keeps you there. Wow.

The sound is really impressive. Wifey let me pump it a bit so I could a feel for it. Sold. Sound is fantastic.

I am slowly forgetting the drive if the A6 and adjusting to the drive of the A5. After testing the performance I am also understand why the drive is not as good. Give and take I suppose.

So ye - this baby is growing on me. It's different. Not worse. Just different.

Hmmm so is it actually faster, or is it more of a speed sensation? How's the handling around corners?

i mentioned earlier & linked to an old thread i created about driving an A6 very often (probably every 3rd day or so).
It was the A6 2.4.
I was astounded at the car's performance - it's not a small car by any means.
I travelled primarily between gardens & bantry bay, (either via greenpoint / sea point, or over kloof nek & down through clifton) & there are quite a few long steep hills and very very windy roads to deal with.
Kloof Rd from clifton & up towards the mountain (or down), must be the most tricky road in the city.
The Audi flew along up those hills and snaking through the corners.

I dont think a car has ever impressed me as much as that Audi did.
Fuel consumption was good if you drove like a terribly civilized person - but not bad either when driving like a barbarian.

Speed wise I reckon a little faster. Getting there the A5 is quicker though. Feels more like launching than accelerating.

What is a bummer is each of the peeps we are visiting are having the same response. Where's your black beauty? That car was special. Etc.. Then a few comments on the new one then we get back to whatever. The A6 always used to get attention. This is kind of making me wish I kept her as it reaffirms what an awesome car she was.

Hmm that's true. Maybe take it back and cut back a bit in other areas to be able to work the 5 in budget? That's what I would do to be honest

Hmm well basically ask for the A6 back and have the trade in recredited to your balance, then make plans to work with the higher balance, whether that requires higher payments, longer periods etc would depend. Whether that means restructuring the deal entirely I can't say.

If at all manageable it might be an option. Can't work out rough figures though as I don't know how it was structured, so it could lead to payment increase of anywhere from 500 to 3000 a month.

Ah. Got you. I was actually discussing doing something like this with my wife yesterday. She had a fit.
Would cost me about R1,600 extra PM.

Just got back to my folks in Hilton from the Bluff. Had an incredibly smooth and quiet drive back here.
I have to admit that I am falling for this car. For the first time this weekend I am not missing my A6 (although I am still feeling unfaithful).

As I mentioned earlier, you can't compare the 2 vehicles. They are both very different and built for different purposes. I have realised this now and starting to appreciate the A5 a lot more.

The car seems to have adapted to my driving style now and seems to have "woken up". My Dad suggested I take it back to Audi to have the computer reset so it learns my driving style from scratch. Going to do this this week me thinks.

Hmmm as I had mentioned to you, the car does through IT magickery learn to adapt to ones driving style and could have been stuffed up by test drives or a granny previous owner. Not sure if it applies to Audi, but I do know the process for a quick clear of the memory on VW DSG (Same basically as S-Tronic) Box...
Might take a day or two to relearn your specific style, but it would fit better after that than it does currently I believe.

1. Turn the ignition on, but DON'T start the engine.

2. Floor the gas pedal and hold it like that for 20-30 seconds.

3. Turn the ignition OFF, release the gas pedal.

I work for Toyota and I get huge discounts but you guys and this Audi have changed my mind completely. ....For obvious reason I am a huge toyota fan but now looking at Audi☺

A5 and A6, incredibly different cars, so I'm not surprised at your experiences Mike. Not worse, just different sums it up. I think if you had to drive the A6 again you'd be quite disillusioned about it's power after the A5, that's happened to me every time I've upgraded.

FWIW, the old 2.4 A6 is quite slow and feels it compared to other cars with similar power. I test drove a few before settling on my Accord, and honestly the size and weight kill any performance. My Accord 2.4 with 10kw more demolishes it like it's standing still. It will be much better down at the coast though. What I will say is, it's comfortable (moreso than my Accord) and has an air of effortlessness about it. Though for my money I would probably rather go for a clean 2.0T A4.

Toyota and Audi are aimed at two different markets. I've experienced both and can tell you that the Audi's cost more, but come with a greater level of refinement and comfort. It's totally worth considering, what model have you got in mind?

I know the details of the discounts you're mentioning intimately. :whistle: What you should do if you're smart, is get the Hilux, sell it after a year or 15,000kms, then get the next, and repeat to make a tidy sum, then get the Audi, cash. :p Just remember the higher costs on these cars, though they are mitigated somewhat when in plan.

Do yourself a favour and drive one, even for interests sake. It'll be marginally slower than your Audi, but it's quite a refined offering.
