The Audi Thread

Just got my A5 back from Audi - after 2 weeks. I never realised how much I missed this car until she was returned.
Had an A5, a Q5 and 2 x A4 loan cars in this 2 week period - and my A5 trumps them all. Looks, drive, etc... So chuffed to have my baby back.

*waits for Mike to say he's missing his A6 and the dealership is looking for one*

Oh god, I was about to post something similar. Dude strikes me as bi-polar with all his swings in affection for the different models of car....

You are not wrong. Still looking forward to getting another A6. But the A5 has spoiled me with specs so it may be a long wait while they look. B&O is high on my list and apparently this is not easy to find in pre-owned A6's and A7's.

So your A5 is superior to the courtesy car A5?

For sure. See next comment.

2.0T vs 3.2L...
And...
Electric seats vs manual.
Sports (S-line) suspension vs stock.
B&O sound vs whatever it had. <-- This is freaking awesome to have back.
AMI and Micro SD vs Micro SD.

The main things I can remember.

My cab is however not done yet ): They want to replace the brakes and some part that they don't stock in SA. So the part is being imported from Germany and my car has to go back again in around 3 weeks.
It's a very light "clunk" kind of sound when the vehicle is hot, and you put it in reverse. The first depression of the brake pedal generates this sound. Go forward and reverse again and it repeats.
They had Audi SA out, took it to Audi Sandton, blah. They don't even know if this new part will fix it. Just hoping so.
They tried to put it down to something that is normal with quattro vehicles until I reminded them this was my third quattro and I had never experienced this before. So now it is onto the braking system. Sigh...

I am. And the hunt for the A6 is still on. Or an A7.
The hunt for perfection never stops - but it won't stop me enjoying what I have.

My A4 quattro also had a reverse and brake thud. I took it in for service and it came back fixed. It was a long time ago though so I'll see if I can find the invoice to check what work was done. Service was at Audi West Rand.

Some info on that would be appreciated please efitol. So far, between Audi Airport, Audi Sandton and Audi SA - they have come up blank.

What is worse is Audi Airport actually introduced this problem. It never existed when I purchased the car.
I mentioned a while back that I sometimes got this odd metal scraping sound. After many attempts to diagnose it, Audi Airport eventually stripped all the brakes, lubricated everything, and whatever else they did to try fix it. It has not happened again (scraping sound) but the clunk exists now. Sigh...

Audi Sandton kept our first A6 for 6 months... I personally had to go and adjust the way the headlights were put on after a cambelt service as well

I'd avoid Audi Sandton at all costs

Automatic?

Isn't it just the "gate" or lock that opens when you depress the brake pedal so that you can actually move the shifter?

I know on occasion my DSG has the smallest of noises when I do it, and I always figured it was becuase of a slight incline and the car maybe rolling slightly after being stopped so that when you want to go again it's sort of stuck.

Has never been Loud or frequent enough to make me worry though.

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind.
Thankfully they never left my car there. Audi Sandton has a techie that has won some aware for being the best diagnosis technician 3 years in a row or something, so they went to ask his advice.

Ye - S-Tronic.
It doesn't happen when shifting into reverse though. It happens when braking while in motion in reverse.
When I first got my car back from Audi Airport (after scraping metal sound fix) it was bad. Every time it happened it gave me the impression I had hit something. Was horrible.
It is a lot softer now, but still - it never existed before they had my car so they must make it go away again.

Aaah okay yes that sounds very different then.

Only thing I can think is the pads being installed wrong inside the brake caliper and making a knocking noise because you change direction.

Service was at Audi West Rand.

Avoid these guys at all costs ... Go straight to Audi Rivonia. Do not collect R200.00. Do not pass begin.
