The Audi Thread

So my 2010 A3 1.8T is five years old in December this year and then out of motor plan. Mileage will be under 65,000km by then.

If I keep it and don't extend the maintenance plan, is it worth fiddling and doing funny things to it to tweak the car?

Assuming I don't decide to trade it in or something! It's close to full house spec I think, minus satnav, sun roof.

How much do you want for it by then?

Absolutely, your 118kW can easily be taken to 140kW and more for around R5,000.
Hmm... :p Would this be chipping it? Risks? Affect on fuel consumption?

Oh, my insurance company will probably want to know that I've modded the car :(

Have not thought about a figure but certainly will try to remember to mention it on this thread if I want to sell it by then :)

;)

Don't expect value from a Facelift A3 8P. The value is in the non Facelift. Same interior and car, just without the revised front and tail (mainly LED DRLs on the xenon version).
Hey, is mine the facelifted version? I have DRL Xenon lights.

Anyone interested in a 15k mileage 2013 A3 1.8 Stonic 3-door Monsoon Grey with extras let me know, else I'll likely just go trade-in route.

I know if you chip your car, insurance must be notified. Is the same applicable if you perform a software remap?

Gut feel says that you should.

No risk, at least not for Stage 1. Tough engines, one of the earlier 1.8T TTs was pushing around 180kW stock...

Not sure about insurance.

I'd guess R165 - R180k. The lack of service plan is an issue for most buyers. Facelift A3s with plan go for north of R200k.

What are the full specs? Sportback? Manual or S-tronic/DSG? Leather? Colour driver screen? Chorus or Concert radio?

What is Stage-1?

My A3 is a 2010 (registered in December) 1.8T Ambition (3 door) S-tronic. Current mileage is 52,000km. Not a colour driver screen.

Re: my optional extras, based on the 2011 Audi A3 pricelist from the Audi website, the values of the items new was as follows:

ZX1 - Acoustic parking system - rear (R4200)
PX4 - xenon plus headlights with daytime running lights (R7650)

UF1 - ipod (R2560),
RSM - Symphony radio with MP3 compatibility and 6 disc front loader (R3950)
9ZX - Cell prep - bluetooth (R6300),
8RY - Bose speakers (R5200)

N1A - leather seats (R11600),
1XX - Multi-function leather steering wheel with s tronic controls (R2100)
5MP - Dark walnut inlays (R3550)

total = R47110.

Nice. Is needing 4 doors one of the reasons you're considering changing? ;)

Nah, the lack of 4 doors I got used to :p So the only reason to change would be do I want to upgrade while the car still has value as a trade-in or as a deposit for the next one. I just bought a new place so my finances are going to be somewhat constrained for the next couple of years, so getting a newer Audi might not be all that realistic or responsible :(

Not the best time to be looking at cars. :D

Unless you are very lucky, you will get come out a lot shorter trading in. The low value German/Audi myth is milked by Audi/dealers. With a little bit of time and effort doing a private deal, you should be able to get 10% more than if you were trading in.

If the bug has bitten, you want to sell while under plan as it means a lot to wary buyers. But I wouldn't bank on more than around R170 - R180k (Sportback adds quite a bit of value). You'll need to put in a fair bit more to get something better than what you already have.

So many places nowadays, even auto electricians... Good money in it.

Most people would probably recommend Revo from Ferroli, or CPI.

Heck, stay away from Ferroli, worse service ever and their Revo support in CT is non existent.

Speaking of chips, are the Race Chip plug and play chips worth the money and time.

Secondly, even if you remove the chip before taking car for service, do you think Audi will pick up something that a chip was fitted and void your warranty and free-way plan?
