The Audi Thread

Anyone saw the last episode of Fifth Gear? I think it is episode 5 in series 24, Jonny Smith races against "Robo" Audi on Ascari. Essentially two similar RS7s however the one is completely autonomous and they claim this technology will be in the next A8. Pretty impressive to see.

Pity about the aftermarket lights, still a decent price for a great car.

OK, second question; anyone want to guess what a sun visor clip will cost to replace? It snapped in half and now one half is stuck in the socket thingmabob.

Checked it out, That car had a serious boot full of tech, presumably this will be miniaturized for the A8. Quite a few companies making big strides in autonomous cars these days. Soon it will just be an option to tick on your order

It's a show for people actually into cars.

Warning bit of a long story

So I have a 2011 A4 1.8T, automatic,bought new, currently with 73K on the clock.

A few weeks ago driving home, on the fast lane about 130km/h a VW Caravelle pulls behind me and try's to show me the way to the centre lane. Needless to say I won't move for a Caravelle , so I accelerate from 130 to about 160 and create a nice gap between the Caravelle and me.

Suddenly the engine starts "missing" and losing compression, EPC light comes on and the other orange "engine light"I slow down get off the freeway and manage to get to a garage, call Audi assistance for help.

the only tech in my region is on another call 60km away, anyway I start the car again and everything seems fine and I get home.

Next day I take the car to Audi Centre Durban and diagnostics come out clear, nothing wrong with the car they say, but anyway want to do an oil consumption test, they fiddle with some settings and tell me that I should drive 1000kms and bring it back for an assessment.

Yesterday I went back, 1000kms completed, second stage oil test done and the report is that the engine is damaged, replacement engine needed.

While the car runs "normally" the only difference I can feel is a lack(not significant) of power.

I'm not stressing as it's covered under the Freeway Plan, but strange nonetheless that the engines caves early

It's my first Audi, love the car and am not a "performance" driver lol. It's strange that the engine goes and 73K.
Anyone else had early engine failure ?

Well it took 3 weeks for all the spares to arrive, I dropped the car of yesterday - service advisor told that a complete overhaul of the block is going to be done, new pistons, rings etc - I wonder if they will put in a new oil pump as well ?

Anyway they will check the block when it comes off and if a re-bore is needed then they will have to order a new block, without a new block they say 5 days repair time

5 days is about right...had the same with my 2010 A4 1.8T recently. Luckily no re-bore was needed. Oil consumption definitely better now.

Wife's Q5 2.0T is also in now for the piston, rings, etc. That’s been a different story...all parts replaced but now there's an oil pressure warning when the engine revs over 4000 rpm. They've replaced the oil pump, checked all oil system components but can't identify the problem. Anyone else ever had a similar issue?

Sorry to jack this thread, i have a audi a4 b7, im seriously looking for a vag com cable, i know the ross tech ones work but cost like 4k! Kinda looking for something cheaper that can scan all sectors of the car.. any advice? Much appreciated

What are you trying to do? Code reading for Engine only or absolutely everything? Want to code your car and things like that too?
