The Audi Thread

Hi Guys, another year, another car. I am looking at buying a 2013 Audi A4 2.0 TDI SE Multitronic with 41000k's on.

Your opinions please (based on real life use if you can)

- Fuel Consumption
- Known Problems (I am reading very mixed reviews on the Multitronic gearbox)
- Overall Happiness with the car
- Resell Value
- Anything else?

PS. There is a Manual also available with pretty much the same specs other than the transmission. Should I be looking at that instead of the Multitronic?

I have the 2013 manual, would have preferred the multitronic as I loved my 2.4 tiptronic a few years ago but this was bought from a family member who is anal about her cars, so I got it in absolute pristine condition. I'm not really bothered by fuel consumption, I do around 100km per day on mostly highways & I ave 6-6.5l/100 with aircon on & not driving very convervative.

Overall happiness (like you say in the other thread) is 'in love', perfect combo of power, economics, comfort & style, but then my immediate family reads like an Audi convention with an A8, 2xA6, S5, A4, S4 & A3 lineup and none of us ever had any serious probs with our cars.

I have the Allroad version of this (which has an S-Tronic gearbox) and am really happy with it so far. Did 2 long road trips in December fully loaded with a roofbox and got 7.1 l/100km. Overall consumption is 8.1, but that is almost only in town driving (and my wife's heavy foot).

Other car is a B8 A4 1.8T Multi and haven't had any issues with it. Previously had a B6 A4 2.0 Multi - also no issues.

Multitronic issues had been resolved by 2012.

Traffic = auto
Less traffic - manual.

If you are personally happy with the Multitronic after a test drive then go for it. Many people find it a bit odd as they aren't used to it, but there is no reason to worry about it and no longer a reliability concern as per previous model years as PP pointed out.

I haven't driven the Diesel version but only the 1.8T in sedan with Multitronic and it was a great drive and a rock solid car overall. My friend's whose car it was had the typical issues with the oil burning on that specific engine and Audi ended up rebuilding the entire motor which sorted it out...irrelevant to the diesel though. He was very happy with the car for a few years but ultimately sold it I think because of the oil problem and expecting trouble.

If resell value is a worry...buy an even older one so you take less of a knock. However since you are going second hand already I don't think you have much to lose really.

Personally for my needs I would have the Multitronic over manual. Unless you stay <10km from work...go auto.

I have always loved VAG cars but only had VW's since 4 months ago when I got a great deal on a A6 v6 Tdi quatro, there is no smiley face big enough to show how much I enjoy this car.
Its has the last 6speed tiptronic box before they changed to s and multitronic, very happy with that as well they are bulletproof.
Anyway, anyone done a Nav map upgrade yet??

The 3.0l I assume? Drove one recently, and they're awesome. :)

Thanks for the feedback guys. I will look at options regarding extended warranties, etc. I don't have enough piece of mind with this to take a change post motorplan.

Soooooooo.... Last couple or months I have been noticing a funny "slip" and sometimes a "shudder" when pulling off race style (foot flat). Stopped in at Audi Airport yesterday and asked them to take my car for a drive and tell me what they think.

Suspect - propshaft. Yay.

I know I have a bad flat spot on my rear right. Was hoping it was that. Technician said it is highly possible, but car must be booked in for them to be 100%.

Thankfully I took out a 3rd party warranty when motor plan expired. Just hope they cover most of it if it is the propshaft. Estimated cost is R25k - just for the part.

Good Morning,

Which 3rd part warranty did you get? Mine is on 96k km, time to trade in or get extension of some sorts

I went with the Wesbank Prestige Plus Infiniti warranty administered by Motorite. Total cost R7.400 and covers me for 2 years unlimited kms. They simply added the cost to my Wesbank financing for the car.

Keep us posted please on how they pay out :) . I took the Formula One plan from Motorite at R380 pm... I'm on 62000km and wondering if perhaps it's a waste of money considering my low mileage.

Will do...

What is this plan you are on? Surely not a warranty as you still have 40k odd from Audi left.

My A3 hit 5 years old so it would have been about 22k to extend the Audi plan another year.

It's a Motorite 'Options Formula Extreme Monthly Warranty' sold to me via The Engine Room who are the agents for the underwriters (Infiniti). R390 p.m. and I can cancel anytime.

I have a 2010 1.8T Ambition S-tronic and my Audi freeway plan expired end of November 2015.

I made a post back in September 2015. Got all the details from the PDF in that post:

Ah, with you. I klap 25k kms per annum so did not contemplate that with such low mileage your had hit the 5 years. That's awesome man.

R100 says it isn't the propshaft.
