On another note, I’ll possibly be looking at moving out of my 2011 A4 2.0 TDI and getting a 2014 A3 Sedan 1.8 TFSI or a 2013 A5 Sportback 2.0 TDI.
Any pros and cons to the two?

You are sheet out of luck, just be lucky it was only R15k, when the dealers play let's throw spares at the problem and see what sticks it's damn expensive. Let the lesson be stay far away from the dealers once out of warranty and good move on getting the diagnostic interface, a degree of diy is the way forward.Guys, I have an issue with Audi Bruma and just want to see if my thinking is right...
Audi Airport has always been my go to dealer, but they closed down mid last year sometime. This forced me to start using Audi Bruma. The 2 dealerships are miles apart RE service. Bruma sucks. Simple as that.
The story...
Engine light came on. This sparked a bit of fear so I booked the car in to get it checked out. There was however zero change in the drive of the car - but rather safe than sorry.
After a week of testing etc... they determine the problem is due to low pressure on 2 of my pistons, and a gasket that needs replacing. They quote me R17k for the repair. I told them I would take it to Auto Service Centre for a second opinion as that price felt hefty for a problem that was not at all noticeable in the vehicle. Bruma tell me no problem, but the diagnosis is still going to cost me R6k. Sigh - I tell them they may as well go ahead with the repairs then if I am already in the hole for R6k. The service dude organises me a small discount and I end up paying R15k.
I collect the car, and about 2 or 3 weeks later - the fkn engine light comes on again! I contact Bruma and they tell me book the car in so they can run more tests. I ask them to confirm that there will be no additional cost to me as I already accepted their original diagnoses and quote - and understood the problem to have been repaired. They say no - it all depends on what they find.
This put me off. It could end up a never ending circle of taking my car in while they keep swapping parts hoping to fix the problem - while I just keep paying. After a bit of an argument, I told them to go **** themselves and that they would never see me again.
I purchased a bluetooth dongle online, and now use that to clear the warning. The error code that is associated with the warning is "fuel mixture too rich". So not too stressed. If it comes on - I just clear it.
Last week my car went to Auto Service Centre for it's next service. I told them to see if they could figure out the problem related to the engine warning light. It took them a whole 5 minutes to do what Audi took a week (and got wrong). And guess what - low pressure in the pistons still. My car is registering 2 bar where it should be between 3 and 6 bar. They reckon it is more than likely the pump, so they organising a second hand pump to test with. If the problem goes away, I will be in for about R8k.
What has really pissed me off here... Audi did not actually fix anything. They quoted me to sort out low pressure and repair a gasket. I still have low pressure. I still have an engine light warning. I am R15k poorer for it.
What kind of recourse do I have here? Is my thinking perhaps offside or do I have a case? I feel strongly I have a case so hoping not offside.

I was at Audi Fourways yesterday dealing with the Pre Owned guys. They were quite good. Dealt with the service department two weeks back and they were relatively good too.Thanks for the response guys. Sigh... reckon I should just move on then and steer clear of Bruma. And ye - I typically use Auto Service Centres when my Audi's go out of plan. Engine light warning scared me a bit though which is why I ended up there. Did not think I would be in for R6k just to find out the problem.
Rivonia and Fourways a leeetle too farWhen I decide to replace my A5 one day and get something that is back in plan again - I will venture out that way. For now, Auto Service Centre take good care of my carriage.
EDIT: An no - I had no idea staff had moved out that side. Good to know as I was always pretty satisfied with their service.

You know some of them, like the service manager, are now at Audi 4Ways? So far Audi Rivonia has been good to me, but I had to use Fourways once. Apart from the guy that makes the service appointments there, the rest of the people are awesome.

Yup - hindsight and all that. I know I should have...Let me just make sure I got this right.
You've trusted Auto Service Centre to look after this car all along, but then when the engine light comes on you dodge them to go to the dealer instead?
That is just bizarre if the case to avoid someone you know and trust to go to someone completely different.
Stick to what you know and has proven themselves.
