The Audi Thread

Thanks @airborne

I found that Re-Move on their site too, but not sure if our local Midas will stock it. Will go take a peep during lunch tomorrow and see if I can find something that will work. Good tip on the cellphone pry tools, I have a few of those floating around here too.
Soudal/Bostik/Liqui-Moly and a few others also makes silicone remover, the VICTOR REINZ is probably a notch above the others but they will all use very similar active ingredients.
The Bostik one looks nice because it appears it's a gel so you can apply it just where you want it and with very little wastage:

I have a 2013 3.0TDi (180kW, 225k km) and so far so good.

Only issues are oil leaks, a coolant leak (need to top up overflow tank every few days) and sections of the led backlight on the cluster flicker sometimes randomly which apparently are faulty LEDs which can be replaced DIY style apparently.

Who knows if B9 will have same issues in 10 years time?

Does B9 have 3.0TDi?

Arg, wife got to work this morning, switched car off, pulled key out and the radio is still playing, lights can be switched on, etc. which should be off with the key out of the ignition and she can't lock the car  Dropped car off at a little mechanic shop around the corner from the factory they use for servicing company vehicles and i went to pick my wife up and go look at the car. Some VCDS with the mechanic, chatting to a few friends and the consensus is the micro switch which detects whether the key is in the ignition is not working, so off to a locksmith tomorrow to see if it can be fixed/replaced.

Damn, what rotten luck.

Hopefully a quick fix.

The car is at the locksmiths, it is apparently a common issue, hopefully it is an easier fix than replacing the entire barrel.

A little silicon part that looks similar to something in a keyboard that returns the switch to an open position when the key is pulled out of the ignition isn't working as it should. It is apparently a dealer only part so the locksmith just removed it for now and I'll try get a quote on a replacement switch if it can be bought separately from the ignition barrel. So we are nearly back to normal, only difference is that once ignition is off electrical power is cut whereas normally things like the radio are powered until you pull the key out of the ignition.

Lucky that was an easy “fix” and not to much of an inconvenience left as it is.

I’m sure the part shouldn’t be too pricey.

Anyone want to buy an Avant?

I always thought it started with the A4, meaning Automobile (with) 4 (wheels)
.... but A6.... and A8.... ?

The reason I ask is I recall a conversation I had in high school with a friend of mine. He's mom worked at the university's department of journalism so he would "borrow" a copy of CAR magazine each month when they got it. This was round about the time the 500 became the A4. Another buddy of mine still have two S4s, the C4 shape that was sold here as the 500.

A6 also has a steering wheel and a spare wheel.

A8 has what the A6 has, plus two more wheels for the fan speed and temperature setting.

Checkmate:cool:

I actually have no idea. Maybe they just loved the ISO 216 standard very much?
