The Audi Thread

Man. A car hasn’t left me speechless like this in a while.

I’d look good in this. Problem? The price.

Put R250-300k towards a 320d instead and pocket the rest with all the fuel savings that you will be doing:love:

Any recommended Audi workshops / mechanics in southern suburbs Cape Town?

After my parent's bill of R22k for a Q3 TDI 80k service with nothing special apart from a new rear wiper and I'm not letting them go back to the dealer (Audi Clairmont)

That couldn’t have just been oil and filters??!

oil change, brake fluid change, coolant change, 2 x lower control arm brackets, rear wiper to be specific. Didn't pick up the thermostat stuck open (or maybe it happened the week after but thats unlikely)

https://schreudersauto.co.za/ looks like an option
That is very expensive, there are some good VAG specific independents in Cape Town, hopefully someone else will chime up.

My money is on the control arms costing an arm (and a leg)
True, Vag are probably hellish expensive considering aftermarket are around R2500 a side.
I wonder why they needed replacement considering the vehicle has only done 80k km?

I remember that on my A4, it was common to get around 50k km on the control arms before the bushings started to perish. Depending on how/where you drive, of course.

Not sure if the other models suffer the same fate or if they improved on the overall design

That’s not a lot of mileage before needing to replace them, it’s a bigger vehicle but then the suspension parts should be designed with that in mind.

R3430 parts plus R4200 labour for 2 control arms and labour. A fair chunk of change

The car almost 10 years old though and still drives like an economical TDI dream

That’s a crazy labour bill to just swop out 2 control arms but then again they are probably billing at around R1000/hr.

I have no idea why people take out of warranty vehicles to the dealers for services or repairs but most people still operate under the illusion that the dealer knows best and does the best work, which in reality often couldn’t be further from the truth. If anything only ever do the baseline engine oil service at the dealer so you can have a full dealer service history but even that has dubious benefit because any buyer with their head screwed just wants to see that the services were indeed done whether at the dealer or not.

Those guys can even do services and work under warranty, I wonder how their prices compare to VW?

I have not used the Cape Town branch since I live in Johannesburg, my Touareg is maintained by their branch in Randburg and they do great work with very decent pricing which is better than any VW dealership pricing I have seen.
