2018 Audi TT facelift leaks online

Two-door TTS gets sportier styling; earlier sightings show lower variants are also due with sportier styling

Leaked images of the updated Audi TT have surfaced online, showing the mild design changes to expect on the facelifted two-door.

Pictures posted on Instagram show that the TTS will get more aggressive styling with an enlarged front splitter and diffuser. Prior to the leak, TT development cars had been seen at the Nürburgring (see gallery) showed that lower variants are also due similar enhancements.

No technical specifications have been released, nevertheless, it's thought that the car's engine line-up will remain largely unchanged. It currently comprises a 1.8 TFSI and 2.0 TFSI, as well as 2.0 TDI.

Sales for the diesel model almost halved last year in the UK, representing just 16% of the TT's overall sales in 2017 of 7767 units, so it's plausible that this oil burining variant could be dropped.

For the petrols, Audi is likely to focus on improving the efficiency and output of the current powertrains. Even the range-topping TT RS, which uses a turbocharged 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine, is only likely to get mild changes. However, that could include a boost to the current car’s 395bhp – potentially pushing it over the 400bhp mark for the first time.

The latest TT acted as a halo car for the brand’s Virtual Cockpit system when it was introduced. However, the facelifted car is expected to make a smaller stride forward in this area. Interior design is not predicted to change too much.

Although it’s not due on roads until the end of this year, recent sightings of a near-finished-looking development cars and the leaked images suggests Audi is about to reveal its facelifted TT. The current model was launched in 2014 at the Geneva motor show.

Doesn't really appeal to me.
Those pictures are very underwhelming.
Those wheels are also meh.
Wheel-arches look like a beetle.

You sure these are leaked images of the new TT?

The current TT is starting to look dated. It's not a car that ages well if you go by the previous models.

My wife just paid R1200 for a friggin cut, trust me, they can afford TT's.

My wife just paid R1200 for a friggin cut, trust me, they can afford TT's.

:crylaugh: Still don't get why roadsters or sport coupe's like TT's, SLK's are labelled as "hairdresser cars"? Is it just jealous people who can't afford them, or what?

Agreed, ppl are just jealous. They need a bakkie to boost their manly ego

I'm not going to lie....SLK has been my dream car for many years, and if I manage to find one, and someone dares tell me I drive a "hairdresser car" - once I manage to get my 6"4 frame out of said roadster (might take a while, patience is a virtue after all) - I will have plenty so say about it:mad:

Audi TT Coupe

Twenty years after the series premiere of the original TT, the third generation of the Audi TT is receiving a comprehensive update. The design icon takes the stage with a sporty and refined exterior design, higher-powered engines and an extended scope of standard equipment.

The first generation of the Audi TT made its series premiere in 1998. Three years before, Audi had already presented the TT as a concept car - a Coupé was shown at the IAA in Frankfurt and a Roadster was presented at the Tokyo Motor Show. Within a short time after the market launch, the Audi TT Coupé had moved to the top of the segment.

The Audi TT stands for driving pleasure, design and close attention to detail: aluminum elements in the driver-oriented interior, progressive rim design, a short, ball-shaped gear lever knob, characteristic tank flap and round, dual-branch tailpipes are among the typical features of this compact sports car. The design with its incisive geometric forms has fans all over the world.

Refined, enhanced, extended

Right on time for the 20th anniversary of the first Audi TT, the brand is especially highlighting the sports car character of the new model. Audi has accordingly refined the design of the new TT, enhanced its performance and extended the range of standard equipment. Besides the driver-oriented Audi virtual cockpit, the basic version of the new model now features the Audi drive select dynamic handling system, a rain and light sensor, heated exterior mirrors and the multifunction steering wheel plus, with which the infotainment and voice control system can be controlled entirely using the steering wheel. Also standard are the illuminated USB ports as well as Bluetooth for wireless pairing of devices.

Sporty and expressive: the exterior design

More masculine, more progressive and even sportier than before - the exterior design of the new TT. The front features a three-dimensional Singleframe radiator grille. Large side air inlets emphasize width even in the basic version.

At the rear, horizontal lines again underscore the width of the new Audi TT. There is no cap underneath the tank flap with its classic TT design; the driver can insert the gas pump nozzle directly into the opening - a typical sports car feature. Headlights with LED or Matrix LED technology are optionally available. The dynamic turn signals are a visual highlight here.

The new designed, optional S line exterior package underscores the sporty character of the Audi TT even more. It includes a full-length front splitter, vertical air inlets, a radiator grille in titanium black and specific side sills with inserts as well as a sporty rear end. Added is a wider diffuser and vertical air inlets below the rear lights with three horizontal fins each.

The Audi TT Coupé and the TT Roadster are each 4.19 meters (13.7 ft) in length. Both body variants have short overhangs; their wheelbase measures 2.51 meters (8.2 ft). The new TT leaves the factory on 17-inch wheels; Audi and Audi Sport optionally offer 18, 19 and 20-inch wheels. Three new colors complete the range of paint finishes: cosmos blue, pulse orange and turbo blue (S line only).

High-powered: the engines

For the new TT, Audi has a range of petrol engines in various performance levels, paired either with the six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. In both transmission variants, the close-ratio lower gears enable powerful acceleration, while the wide ratio of each transmission's highest gear keeps the engine speed down. All new engines come with a gasoline particulate filter.

Effortlessly sporty: suspension and quattro drive

The new Audi TT offers handling that is both dynamic and precise. If the customer chooses the S line sport package or Audi magnetic ride, the body is lowered by ten millimeters (0.4 in). Other chassis highlights include progressive steering, four-link rear suspension and Electronic Stabilization Control (ESC). The wheel-selective torque controlis activated in fast cornering and improves handling as required by means of precise brake interventions on the unloaded wheels on the inside of a curve.

Driver-oriented: the cockpit and the assistance systems

The sports car character is also underscored by the driver-oriented interior with its clear lines. The slender instrument panel resembles an aircraft wing; the round air vents with integrated controls allude to jet engines - a classic TT detail.

Sport seats with integrated head restraints are standard on the Audi TT. S sport seats (standard in the S line sport package) with pneumatically adjustable side bolsters are optionally available. The luggage compartment of the 2+2 seater affords 305 liters of space (10.8 cu ft) underneath the stretched tailgate, while the Roadster offers 280 liters (9.9 cu ft).

All indicators appear in digital form on the 12.3-inch display of the Audi virtual cockpit. The driver can choose between two modes: in the classic view, the speedometer and tachometer take center stage. In "Infotainment" mode, content such as the navigation map is enlarged. The new sport display is optionally available and provides information on the engine output currently in use, as well as the torque and g-forces.

The MMI terminal on the center console has just six keys. The top-of-the-line MMI navigation plus with MMI touchintegrates a touchpad on the upper surface of the rotary/push-button control that recognizes handwritten input and allows zooming, for example. The voice control system understands formulations from everyday speech.

Audi connectbrings various online services on-board via fast LTE. The Audi smartphone interface connects smartphones with the car and can stream content seamlessly to the Audi virtual cockpit via USB. The high-end solution when it comes to hi-fi systems is the Bang & Olufsen Sound System. Its amplifier offers 680 watts of performance and a total of 14 channels. It fills the interior using twelve speakers, including two center speakers and two bass boxes.

The driver assistance systems embody the TT philosophy: they relieve the driver of work, so that he or she can fully concentrate on the road. The line-up extends from the lane change assist Audi side assist, the lane departure warning system Audi active lane assist and traffic sign recognition to the park assist with display of the surroundings and a rearview camera.

Classic: Audi TT Roadster with soft top

Like every open-top Audi, the new Audi TT Roadster comes with a soft top in either black or gray. The soft top has a taut fit, and its excellent sound insulation makes it an "acoustic top." With a weight of 39 kilograms (86.0 lb), the top is very light and doesn't compromise the luggage compartment. A standard feature, the electrical drive opens and closes the top in around ten seconds at vehicle speeds of up to 50 km/h (31.1 mph).

The new Audi TT will arrive at German dealers and become available in other European countries in the fourth quarter of 2018 - customers can already pre-order the model from late September. Prices for the Audi TT Coupé start at around 35,000 euros. The Audi TT Roadster is available from around 37,500 euros.

Say ‘Guten Tag’ to the facelifted Audi TT coupé and roadster

A facelifted version of the third-generation Audi TT has been revealed, with the Ingolstadt-based automaker describing the updates made to its coupé and roadster models as “comprehensive”.

Audi says it has “enhanced” the TT’s performance and lengthened its list of standard equipment. Besides the virtual cockpit, the basic version of the refreshed model now features a drive select dynamic handling system, rain and light sensors, illuminated USB ports and heated side-mirrors as standard (local specifications are, naturally, not yet confirmed).

Design changes are led by the adoption of a new “three-dimensional” version of the brand’s trademark Singleframe grille up front. Interestingly, there is no cap beneath the tank flap so the pump nozzle is inserted directly into the opening. Headlights with LED or Matrix LED technology are optionally available, and include “swiping” indicators.

There’s also a new (optional) S line exterior package that adds a full-length front splitter, vertical air inlets, a titanium black finish for the grille and specific side sills with inserts. A wider rear diffuser and vertical air inlets below the rear lights are also included in this package.

While 17-inch wheels are standard, 18-, 19- and 20-inch items will be optionally available, along with three new colours (cosmos blue, pulse orange and turbo blue).

Audi says the facelifted TT will be offered with an updated range of petrol engines in “various performance levels”, paired either with a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

From what we can glean, the turbocharged 2,0-litre engine will be offered in three states of tunes: 145 kW and 180 kW in the freshly badged 40 TSFI and 45 TFSI, respectively, and 225 kW in the TTS. No official word yet on whether the entry-level 1,8-litre engine will be carried over, nor what the brand has in store for the flagship TT RS.

2018 Audi TT now exclusively 2.0-litre petrol-powered

Updated two-door gets streamlined engine line-up and more standard kit, as well as a sportier appearance

Audi will drop the lowest-powered petrol and diesel versions of its TT from the line-up when an updated version of the two-door arrives in showrooms at the end of 2018.

In a move that TT product marketing manager Jens Meier said will help to “simplify the range”, the car will come exclusively with the 2.0 TFSI engine.

Although Audi has not officially linked the changes to WLTP, it is thought the more stringent procedure has encouraged the use of the 2.0-litre unit across the range. The 2.0 TDI had also experienced rapidly slowing sales, with the diesel model representing just 16% of the TT's overall UK sales in 2017.

For the 2.0 TSI, three states of tune will be offered, with the first, the 40 TFSI, producing 194bhp, 16bhp more than outgoing 1.8-litre TFSI that features at the bottom of the current TT range. There will also be a 242bhp 45 TFSi, while the TTS (pictured above and below) gets 302bhp, a decrease of 4bhp thanks to the fitment of a new particulate filter.

An Audi spokesman said that the resulting increase in back pressure has helped to boost torque, helping to shave a tenth from the pre-facelift car’s 4.6sec 0-62mph time.

Fans of Audi Sport's version of the TT, the TT RS, will rejoice at news that it will stick with the current turbocharged five-cylinder motor. However, this updated performance model isn’t due to arrive until 2019, so we don’t yet know whether WLTP will affect the 394bhp output of its 2.5-litre engine.

Along with its engine line-up changes, the tweaked third-generation TT, for which Britain has the biggest appetite in Europe, also now comes with more standard kit. Offered from the base level are Audi’s Drive Select system and automatic headlights and wipers. There’s also a new sports display for the standard Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster.

Aesthetic changes are slim, but there is a new single-frame front grille and larger side air inlets on the bumper. S line models also get more aggressive styling, with new a new front splitter and a wider diffuser at the back.

To mark the 20th anniversary of the TT, Audi is adding a special, limited-to-999 units TT 20 Years model to the range (above). It mimics the design and finish of the original TT concept, first shown in 1995, with grey paint, new 19in wheels and a tan leather interior. It will come exclusively with the TFSI 45 engine.

UK prices for the updated TT are yet to be revealed, but the higher-specification base engine and extra standard kit are expected to encourage a rise in price. In Germany, it will cost from €35,000 (about £31,100) in coupé form. The roadster will start from €37,500 (£33,300).

Facelifted Audi TT Revealed

20 years after the original Audi TT was set loose, the facelifted version of the 2015 model has been announced.

The crux of the updated model revolves around updating the standard equipment available on the TT. Besides the driver-oriented Audi virtual cockpit, the basic version of the new model now features the Audi drive select dynamic handling system, a rain and light sensor, heated exterior mirrors and the multifunction steering wheel plus as standard.

The front-end now features a 3-dimensional grille with honeycomb inserts and matching air dams that flank it. The rear-end also features more honeycomb design around the rear diffuser.

Three new colour options will be available, namely: Cosmos Blue, Pulse Orange and Turbo Blue, the latter is only available on S-Line models.

Engines are likely to remain unchanged although Audi hasn’t specified any details yet. Audi did say that the facelifted model will be offered with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual clutch ‘box.

The interior is also unchanged in design and aside from the additional standard equipment, remains a high-quality environment to enjoy driving from.

The facelifted TT will be available to order from September 2018, although South Africa will likely only see its shipment arrive late this year or early 2019.

Audi's TT gets a mid-life touch-up

On the 20th anniversary of its original launch, the Audi TT has been enhanced with a range of styling, technology and equipment updates.

The third generation of the sporty two seater, launched in 2014, receives a comprehensive upgrade to both the coupe and roadster versions, starting with an extended list of standard equipment.

Besides the Audi virtual cockpit digital instrument panel, the basic version of the new model now features the Audi drive select dynamic handling system, rain and light sensors, heated exterior mirrors, and the ability to control the infotainment and voice control system entirely using the steering wheel. Also standard are illuminated USB ports as well as Bluetooth for wireless pairing of devices.

The MMI terminal on the minimalist centre console has just six keys. The top-of-the-line MMI navigation plus with MMI touch integrates a touchpad on the rotary/push-button control that recognizes handwritten input and allows zooming. The voice control system understands everyday speech.

Exterior design tweaks are minor but the optional S line exterior package now sports a full-length front splitter, vertical air inlets, a radiator grille in titanium black and specific side sills. Added is a wider diffuser and vertical air inlets below the rear lights with three horizontal fins each.

The TT’s chiselled geometric styling otherwise remains unchanged, as does the short, ball-shaped gear lever knob, characteristic tank flap and round, and dual-branch tailpipes. Headlights with LED or Matrix LED technology are optionally available.

Audi hasn’t announced any engine changes and the 2-litre four cylinder petrol turbo is likely to remain as the mainstay of the range, with the 295kW five-cylinder 2.5 turbo powering the range-topping TT RS.

Power is laid down through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and either front- or all-wheel drive.

The TT is underpinned as before by four-link rear suspension, and the S Line version rides 10mm lower for more hunkered-down handling.

Wheel-selective torque control activates during fast cornering with precise brake interventions on the unloaded wheels on the inside of a curve.

Driver assistance systems include a lane change assist, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, and park assist.

The new Audi TT will go on sale in Europe in the fourth quarter of 2018 though there’s no word yet on a South African launch date.
