Audi commits to Concept C in 2027 amid Porsche 718 EV uncertainty

Internal letter from CEO Gernot Döllner confirms plans are still in motion to launch electric TT successor

Audi has confirmed the production version of the Concept C remains on track to launch next year, as CEO Gernot Döllner has moved to quell speculation around the firm’s electric successor to the TT.

In an internal letter to Audi employees, first reported by Germany’s Donaukurier, Döllner sought to address concerns over the two-seater, elements of which are being developed in partnership with Porsche.

“The delivery of the platform by Porsche is not in question,” he wrote, adding that cooperation between the two Volkswagen Group brands is “proceeding in good collaboration between Team Porsche and Team Audi”.

Referred to internally as the C-Sport, the new sports car was conceived to share its underpinnings, drivetrains, battery and other key components with Porsche’s planned electric 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman. However, questions over its future emerged following a change of CEO at Porsche, Michael Leiters replacing Oliver Blume on 1 January 2026.

US-based news agency Bloomberg subsequently reported that Porsche, under Leiters’ leadership, was reviewing a possible cancellation for the electric 718 duo as part of broader cost-cutting measures.

This prompted speculation that the C-Sport could also be affected, but Döllner’s message appears intended to reassure Audi employees that plans for the new car remain secure despite wider discussions around EV platforms and future model plans within the Volkswagen Group.

Audi TT successor confirmed for production

Revealed in September 2025, Audi has confirmed the Concept C, which previewed a future sportscar from the brand with the four rings, will, indeed, go into production in the near future.

Within the next two years, Audi’s Concept C will go into production, as confirmed by Audi CEO Gernot Döllner in a recent interview with Australian publication GoAuto. Döllner stated, “We presented that last September, and within two years, we will have it in the market.”He remains firm on the release of this new model, calling the Concept C a “serious product”.

The new two-seater platform has high hopes to evoke the same impact the TT did upon its release in 1998. The Ingolstadt brand has acknowledged criticisms on the abundance of displays, touch controls, and overall digitalisation of the cabins of its most recent products. However, the production version of the Concept C is said to take on a more analogue-oriented approach with the fitment of anodised aluminium switchgear. The cabin will also reference the designs of Audi models of the past.

Good grief we’re old: even the Audi TT is being restomodded now

Autoforma unveils a “tribute to one of the most influential automotive designs of recent decades”

Audi may have told us not to call it a TT, but last year’s Concept C gave us a glimpse into the future of its little two-door sportscar. And of course, that future is electric.

But what if you’re not ready to move on? What if you’re still smitten with the original TT’s reductionist, Bauhaus-inspired design? Well, Dutch firm Autoforma might now have the answer.

This is the Audi TTS Restomod, and we’re told that it brings “the purity and geometric clarity of the original TT concept into a contemporary, highly detailed execution”.

And yes, the TT coupe concept and the TTS roadster that this car apes were both revealed within a couple of months of each other way back in 1995, so they’re definitely restomod-ready. We are just that old, people.
