The Bafana Bafana Thread

Ghana have a tough group
I feel the others have it worse, Senegal got France and Norway, Cape Verde gg Spain and Uruguay. Ivory coast, Germany Ecuador. Ghana could beat England and Panama...unlikely but maybe

World cup increasing from 32 to 48 team really has made some pointless matches.
+16 extra teams and +40 extra matches for a total of 104 matches compared to the previous world cup. In my view that really makes zero sense and waters down the whole tournament. People will seriously get fatigued watching 104 matches over 39 days. The extra matches mean so many records for goals scored and golden boot record goals will happen.

Africa gets 9 slots. 4 extra slots over the previous world cup. At least it means South African qualifies for the first time since 2002. (2010 they hosted meaning they did not have to qualify)

I have never heard of the countries of Curucao or Cabo verde before. You could easily get 10-0 scoresheets when they play tier 1 nations.

As if these big scores haven't happened before. Only way you grow the game is through greater participation.
Cabo Verde is Cape Verde and curucao is similar to how the UK gets split into different countries when it comes to sport as its actually a Dutch territory. Its a Caribbean islands close to Venezuela, hopefully Pete isn't drunk one night before the wc and targets them instead of a boat.

They will be competitive, probably better than New Zealand. Cape Verde and Curucao are territories of Portugal and Netherlands respectively. They used the FIFA ancestry rule to their advantage so the core of their teams are actually guys with Portuguese descent and Dutch descent who couldn't make those teams and qualified via the ancestry rule. Some of them never stepped in the countries before their call-ups. Cape Verde have also been doing decently in the Afcon for a while now (not winning but getting into the knockout stages) so their qualification was not really a major surprise to people following African football.

South Africa tried to call up some players via this rule before but often they don't really blend in with the style of the team, Pierre Issa and Dean Furman were two exceptions who adapted well.

Cape Verde is an independent country now.

Germany drilled Saudi Arabia 8-0 in 2002.

Portugal drilled North Korea 7-0 in 2010

Spain drilled Costa Rica 7-0 in 2022.

And who would forget the German 7-1 demolition job of Brazil in the semis in 2014.

The biggest win margin however goes all the way back to 1982, when Hungary beat El Salvador 10-1.

The point of world cup pool stages is to grow the game and play shít countries and to get 10 - 0 scores. (Or 100 - 0 in rugby)
A big part of the fun is watching these smaller teams that you never heard of and never get to see. It actually ads to the build up.
You can see the top nations play each other each and every year (it isn't special in any way) and in the knockouts.

Winning at least one game is going to be absolutely necessary.

Not a good look to be making excuses already. You cannot go with this loser mindset.

Mexico and Denmark are second tier teams. It's not like Brazil, Germany, France, Netherlands.

But it is kinda expected. Bafana are scared of countries like Nigeria who didn't even make it.

I thought the last world cup was going to be shít because politics, but luckily the Arabs were strong willed enough to tell all the woke retards to fsck off.

Hopefully this time around we can again enjoy the soccer with out making it about hating Trump or being gay.
You will be very disappointed.
Game in Seattle between Egypt vs Iran is a designated pride game.

Also the chance of trump not making himself the centre of attention is zero.

UDM have lodged a complaint against broos for his comment that Mbokazi would "go into a meeting black and come out white". What the **** is wrong with these people? I hope the HRC tell them to stuff off and not entertain such stupidity.

Wtf does that even mean?

You cant use colour metaphors anymore it seems unless you're presumably black! Such idiocy!
It's the sexist remarks that got my goat, but at least he has enough self respect to apologise, football has gone out of its way to accommodate everybody, we don't need this rubbish, especially now, he should curb his excitement.
