The Bafana Bafana Thread

Yeah,at least nomvete can score with chances he gets.Hope he gets selected.

First goal was a defensive error, but the second goal was really good. I just wish that Bafana would start to play properly from the start of the game, and not wait for the second half. Any way, a win is a what we needed, so well done to the team. I just the SA camp goes really well, and we carry good momentum into the WC!

Bafana squad named for final training camp

Carlos Alberto Parreira on Friday named the following 29-man squad for Bafana Bafana's final training camp ahead of the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

The squad will have to be reduced to 23 players, including three goalkeepers, before the World Cup begins.

BAFANA SQUAD

Goalkeepers: Itumeleng Khune (Kaizer Chiefs), Moeneeb Josephs (Orlando Pirates), Shuaib Walters (Maritzburg United), Rowen Fernandez (Arminia Bielefeld, Germany)

Defenders: Matthew Booth (Mamelodi Sundowns), Sibonsio Gaxa (Sundowns), Bongani Khumalo (SuperSport United), Tsepho Masilela (Maccabi Haifa, Israel), Innocent Mdledle (Sundowns), Aaron Mokoena (Blackburn Rovers, England), Bryce Moon (PAOK Salonika, Greece), Anele Ngcongca (KRC Genk, Belgium), Siyabonga Sangweni (Golden Arrows), Lucas Thwala (Orlando Pirates).

Midfielders: Franklin Cale (Sundowns), Lance Davids (Ajax Cape Town), Kagiso Dikgacoi (Fulham FC, England), Andile Jali (Pirates), Thanduyise Khuboni (Arrows), Reneilwe Letsholonyane (Kaizer Chiefs), Teko Modise (Pirates), Surprise Moriri (Sundowns), Steven Pienaar (Everton, England), MacBeth Sibaya (Rubin Kazan, Russia), Siphiwe Tshabalala (Chiefs)

Strikers: Benedict McCarthy (West Ham United, England), Katlego Mphela (Sundowns), Siyabonga Nomvethe (Moroka Swallows), Bernard Parker (FC Twente, Holland).

They need to get those Europe based players into camp soon. They're all bench warmers bar Pienaar, the rest of the squad have had 2 months of physical training and team bonding...hope they gel once all together as a team.

Fernandez is a stupid move, waste of a space on the squad but the rest of the squad is the best we probably have at the mo.

Wow! Big ups to SAFA for pulling off the Brazil game. It now looks like Bafana are finally getting some good match practice in. Btw, where are you getting the fixtures from, News24 don't have them yet?

Bafana's Thai tie sold out
2010-05-12 07:55

Johannesburg - The South African Football Association have revealed that Sunday's friendly at the Mbombela Stadium is sold out.

Bafana Bafana face the Thailand national team at the opening of Nelspruit's Soccer World Cup venue this weekend.

A statement on SAFA's website late on Tuesday read: 'The 2010 FIFA World Cup venue will accommodate thirty thousand supporters for the Sunday match between South Africa and Thailand.

'Tickets went on sale over the weekend, and the last tickets were purchased just after four o'clock this afternoon.

'The Mbombela municipality will introduce Park and Ride to transport match ticket holders to the stadium.'

The match is one of several matches South Africa have lined up ahead of the 2010 tournament.

Really great to see Bafana will be playing in front of a large crowd. I just hope that they can get the result that they need.

A good idea coming out of SAFA:

Safa vice-president Mandla Mazibuko insists the continued improvement of Bafana Bafana would rely heavily on the construction of a permanent base for the national side.

Mazibuko's comments come after returning from a visit to the Ivory Coast's FFFA Goal Project, which focuses at reviving the country's youth development structures.

Mazibuko told SAPA: "It was a worthwhile trip and something we would also like to do here at home.

"They have built a centre where all their national teams will be based and we would also like to do that.

"We can't keep on relying on sponsors and sleeping at hotels. We need to build a similar centre for Bafana Bafana and all the other national teams."

This really is something that should have been done years ago. Hopefully the actually do build a proper base for the team sometime soon.

Bafana 3-0 Thailand.

80 min

For once we look like a team able to score. We're brave, giving brilliant through balls. And we're very fit, running after every ball.

Must've been 4 - 0, after a false offside.

The atmosphere is electric, 30000 yellow shirts. The WC is going to be awesome!

Great game by Bafana, looks like there is hope for the WC. I just hope that they can do well in the next few friendlies and build up momentum for the WC.

Also, 4 goals! And without our teletubbie, when last did SA score 4 goals?

I dont even think we scored 4 goals the whole of last year,so this is quite amazing, even tho thailand suck.
