The Banting/LCHF Thread

Of all the things you guys have cut out due to this diet/lifestyle.

What do you miss the most?

For me it is Chips. Whether it is Lays, Pringles, McDonalds/Steers Fries or even Doritos. Simply can't forget about their awesomeness.

Probably the salt. Which is why biltong makes for a good substitute when I do get a really bad craving for them.

I thought it was going to be sweet things but I almost never crave those.

Bread. Not the "normal" sliced everyday bread but the fancy focaccia loaves or olive ciabatta rolls... *sigh*

I've tried baking with almond flour, coconut flour, macadamia flour, flax seed flour and sunflower flour and none of them really scratch that itch quite right.

You lot don't eat oats do you? Got a real nice oat bread recipe.

No can do.

When I bulk up again I might reintroduce oats as a post workout item. Probably in protein pancakes.

But that is not in my immediate future.

First struggling to find my maintenance calories. Been upping it for two weeks now and still losing weight. Next week up another 100-150 calories it seems.

So after my recent visit to the doctor, he suggested that it might be a good idea to look at my lifestyle. He suggested LCHF eating plan.
This is gonna be interesting as I am full of crap when it comes to food in terms in what I eat and don't want to eat.

Started last night, so let's see how it goes.

Gonna miss my coke......

The cravings will go away. If you feel for fiz try soda water or if it's really bad Coke Zero. Although not a lot of it.

I went from 2lt coke per day ---- to coke zero ---- to soda in a couple of months.

don't miss coke at all these days ;)

... must also say, I went from "plenty rum & coke" to "whisky & soda" during this phase :p

Posted this in the Supper thread as well but it actually belongs here because it is low carb. Soft tortillas made from pork rinds, cream cheese and eggs.

Filled with coleslaw, cheddar cheese and steak. Topped with Chilli sauce and spring onion.

Hi all. I haven't read this full thread so I don't know if this has been mentioned before or not. Me and my SO have been banting for almost 2 years now and what I've found is that once you're going it's easy to get the low carb right, but keep on forgetting about the other ½ ... high fat. I still find that this can be tricky / difficult to incorporate but on the plus side we just ad copious amounts of butter to everything

Ps if it hasn't already been mentioned WW is having a special on butter R29ish I think

Apart from butter.... Cheese, cream, full fat yoghurt, bacon, fatty cuts of beef, chicken with skin on and extra splashes of olive oil on salads.

Win!

Also we scrap milk in our coffees and use cream instead. Cream has more fat and less carbs than milk and it has more deliciousness points!

If anyone loves hot chocolate give the Nomu Skinny Hot Chocolate a try. Absolutely amazing (especially when you make it 50/50 cream and milk) and quite low on carbs

Fatty cuts of beef and pork. Pork leg or belly roast with that massive slab of fat on it? No problem!

Also, avocado pears

Have had to cut avo's out lately. Can only eat the haas ones and last I saw they were R78 for 4 at WW :wtf:

checkers waterfall selling banting bread at R30 a loaf - launch was R20 but they quickly upped it - heavy on the flax flavour
