The Banting/LCHF Thread

Longest I've gone is about 40hours.

Done a few 24hr fasts that are manageable. But with a physical job, kids and working out 7 days a week anything longer than that because quite tough.

Still doing 18:6 majority of the days. Never less than 16:8. Honestly can't see myself doing breakfast again.

I'm eventually going to stick to it with my bulk coming up in a few week's time.

Doesn't it somewhat defeat the purpose of an IF as your body adapts to the "scheduled" fasting...? I thought the idea was to mix it up somewhat and keep the body guessing for best results.

When it comes to diets, mixing it up might help when you're hitting a plateau, but generally a normal IF schedule will work fine.
You want a more varied routine when it comes to workouts but it doesn't really work the same for nutrition afaik.

Was a good week for weight loss - dropped 2.3kg this week.
I need to drop another 1kg by the end of the month to reach my Discovery weight loss goal, was worried for a while because July was just a plateau the whole month and then I changed to strict green list and upped the iffy gym visits and weight started going down again.

I'm currently on around 96 hours with no adverse affects. Down quite a few kgs as well. Will break fast on Sunday I think.

So the 96 hours weren't bad at all. Just been breaking my sleep at odd times. There are a few explanations for this, not sure which one I believe.

Down 6.5 kgs for the week as well, but I'm sure I put on at least 1kg back today.

Wow, amazing result there!

Yeah I'm gonna start experimenting with OMAD, rotating 3 day fasts and longer.

Of course, just because I wasn't too affected this time doesn't mean next next time won't be worse. I do have a feeling that it's because I was already fat adapted.

Yeah that was a bloody long fast. Have done a few 24 hour fasts this week without any ill effects. Had a crazy gout attack since yesterday and I'm still battling to walk even now. Doubt it has anything to do with the fasting and I've been very well hydrated so must be a bit of extra meat the night before followed by Scottish salmon last night. A double whammy of sorts. So I'm down about 6kgs in the last 2 weeks so going well so far.

LOL i just finished a week of a gout attack.... terrible.

Ek het letterlik rond gekruip in die huis! Dit was *** seer :(
Went to the doc on saturday morning for two injections. Cortisone and something stronger than Voltaren. Was perscribed Arcoxia 120mg, which seems to be doing the trick.

Also I drink a teaspoon with apple cider before bed, as well as a teaspoon and water of alkaline powder.

So far so good. Let's see what happens when the Arcoxia runs out.

Also, chill on the fasts. I've read that could also bring on gout.

As a gout sufferer for more than 10 years, I feel your guys pain. I have been on puricos 300mg daily and, while many low carb advocates say I can give up the medication because "low carb cures gout", my fear of an attack will not let me give up the medication.

Gout is inflammatory - any wheat/sugar/dehydration prior to your guys recent attacks that could have caused them?

Mine was copious amounts of beer after the Lions loss in the final

None of that for me. I drink a lot of water and have been good with my diet avoiding all of those. The only thing I did do was the fasts bit pretty much because I wasn't all that hungry.

Gee, what is up with this sudden onset of fasting?

Seems, I do halfday fastings, everynow and then. I think it helps break plateaus. Like what happened above.

I have now broken the 81kg barrier. My lowest weight yet at 80.8kg. ! woohoo, Nearing my 1st goal weight of 80kg, before reassessment. I have put on some muscle, so my original goal of 75kg seems a bit unreasonable.

So have lost 14.2 kg since April.

For me, it's the new information available.

Congrats :)

Which new info?

I've been reading/watching stuff by Dr Jason Fung and to some extent, Rhonda Patrick and a few others. Also I've seen some videos/read some stuff by amateurs trying it out and having fantastic results. I'm really interested in the benefits, fat loss being the more obvious, but also autophagy.
