The Banting/LCHF Thread

The salt is for your electrolyte levels IIRC

After doing some quick googling, apparently all that insulin you have when you're on a high carb diet helps you retain sodium. When you switch to low carb, your kidneys retain less sodium, so you need to eat more salt to make up for it.

Also the ketogenic diet has a diuretic effect which would also cause you to lose relatively more sodium versus standard diets.

Salt is sodium chloride... end of story?

*sigh*

what will the salt do?

Some people find they feel a lot better doing keto with it. It seems to make me feel better which is why I suggested it. Do an experiment for yourself and see. Yesterday I was working outside all day in the heat, ate nothing the entire day, and had great energy. I did start to feel lethargic at one stage, but a glass of salt water fixed that up quickly.

* if you have hypertension you obviously want to test to see if you are salt sensitive. This routine has had no effect on my blood pressure.

I assume to make you thirsty throughout the day, hence drinking more water?

Doesn't make me thirsty - in fact the water seems more thirst quenching.

ok.. just check the recipe.. it's generally mixed with normal roti flour.. so i suppose it's not really lchf friendly

lots of hype around the pink crap (I do have some myself), something that's been bugging me is that it's surely not a renewable resource? Also I read somewhere that they've found traces of uranium in the stuff (haven't verified the truth of that though)

Where do you guys get the Greek Yoghurt. The double cream plain stuff at Pick n Pay, Woolies and Checkers has too many carbs in, imo. What's the carb/sugar content of proper greek yoghurt?

On the topic of roti, do you think methi roti would be allowed on lchf? methi = fenugreek

Cauli wraps make a nice substitute, reminds me of a nice paratha without the crisp unfortunately. Still tasty.

I normally get the woolies one. Just a little bit of carbs is acceptable to me.
