The Banting/LCHF Thread

how much meat do you eat?
how much water do you drink?
I usually eat like 1 piece of chicken breast or 100g of beef or pork steak.
As for water, I have a 500ml bottle next to me, here at work, which I refill like 2 - 3 times per day. Plus about 2 cups of coffee per day, and again 2 - 3 glasses of water at home.

Try cut out dairy for a while .... 30g carbs a day (I think) and no dairy is optimal weight loss conditions. Obviously exercise plays a good part.

Thanks. I'll try that as well.
Because 3 days a week, I have about a cup of full cream yoghurt and in my coffee, I put plenty of full cream milk. Someone told me already about milk here. I'll do my best.

I'm trying it for 2 weeks to see if it makes a difference myself.

For those who are not lactose intolerant, dairy (full cream) is fine. However, we have found that some people are losing dramatically more weight if they omit dairy when Banting. Others can consume dairy without it having an effect on their weight loss goals. We have left dairy on the Green List, but you will need to monitor your weight loss levels and your dairy intake. If you find that you are not losing enough weight and are consuming dairy, then try cutting out dairy. Unfortunately, dairy is unique to every person as lactose is a form of carb that everyone responds to differently.

full cream yoghurt... look at those carbs, they are not good... post a pic if you can of that label. full cream milk is also carb heavy, rather try cream instead.

Question (I know it's probably mentioned somewhere in here but searching for it .... nuh uh).

Best place to get almonds from to grind down myself? Is there an online store mebbe?
The arm and a leg costs in the shops is just madness even being able to afford it.

Then black coffee, here I come!
And besides, I love the smell and taste of a black coffee made out of Jacobs!

Hmmm... I really don't like cream in my coffee. I'd rather go black if diary makes me not lose weight.

I never used to eat cream. I even avoided trifle because of it.

Now on LCHF I can guzzle the stuff down. Cream in coffee (I use Nespresso original pods) is my daily fix

Cheapest I've seen is R150/kg at Fruit & Veg/Food Lovers. I'd love to know if there's cheaper places too!

how delicious is coconut milk?

It's on the green list so I'm thinking both coconut milk and cream are guilt free.

So.... Be honest.
When you reached your healthy goal. Every how many months do you cheat?

I have the flu. Everything tastes horrible. And sometimes you just need a comfort. I have not succumb yet. I struggled way to much to get over my sugar cravings.

So let me hear it. Or when are you more likely to cheat?

I'm on day 10 :D ...... but i haven't eaten anything yet that's not on the green list and something from yellow once or twice.

Mila, something absolutely delicious using only green ingredients:

Coconut cream, full cream yogurt, cream and a few berries (frozen but the WW ones are horrible). I whip the coconut cream and cream together, stir in the yoghurt and add the berries.

Eat with a small teaspoon and relish every mouthful.

Let us know if you try it

I discovered mange tout tonight ...... had a fillet with a mustard cream sauce, a banting bun and side of mange tout, baby marrow, mushroom and a touch of corn.

Remember most of our corn's GM. I don't eat it anymore, but it sure is delicious.

Aye, I just couldn't resist, it was beautiful organic on the cob so I stole a tablespoons worth :D

Comments like this make me think I'm doing something wrong. :(
But when I go to bed, I try to think about every single thing I put into my mouth, and there's really nothing (or almost nothing) anti-banting. I COMPLETELY cut out sugar, I eat only veggies + meat and chew a piece of hard cheese or almonds. That's basically my daily eating.
Maybe cycling did play a big role in the weight loss? I'm also thinking exercising now...
I think the cycling plays a bigger role than the diet to be honest.
About 2 years or so back, I did the Atkins thing. It worked to a degree, but it did nothing compared to the way I am shedding the weight now. Only difference is the exercise.

The bonus is I freaking love cycling. I crave my weekends to go trail riding. So the exercise is easy.
This weekend I am also starting the Tabata Protocol (http://www.tabataprotocol.com) . Not for weight loss, but to improve lung capacity and heart rate when cycling (I want to get faster). The side effect of this is I will lose weight too. Will be great if it gets me to my next goal weight.

Try mix in a bit of exercise. Find something you really enjoy so it is not a chore. Why cycling works for me.
