The Banting/LCHF Thread

try macadamia nut flour, really nice and comes a bit finer as well. is your wife allergic to nuts?
if so then the mac flour wont work  then your gonna have to get those isolate flours
soy isolate etc wont really find them in SA will have to get from UK, working on getting some
in myself. supposed to be able to make much better bread than the nut flours.

Just almonds, gonna try and find some mac flour or try making some... They not easy to come by...

Dinner tonight:
Steak, grilled haloumi cheese and mushrooms, a liiitle bit of onions, cauli and broccoli.

And to think that around this time last year I thought that eating healthy was:
  • eating "wholewheat" muesli or granola for breakfast
  • drinking 500ml+ of orange juice first thing in the morning (it's fruit juice, so it's okay!)
  • eating chicken wraps and pitas for lunch
  • and tiny portion of non red-meat, with a crapload of rice/noodles/pasta (to make up for the lack of meat) for dinner

I'm about the same weight I was 10 years ago (between the time I left school and "inevitably" gained weight), I feel healthier than I have in years, I don't feel the need to sleep as soon as I get home from work and I don't feel like a zombie every morning. Plus if I miss a meal it doesn't feel like I'm going to die from hunger.

Yay for eating healthy :D

I weigh the same I did about 28 years ago. Banting for year, never measured meals to limit what I eat, almost never feel hungry in between, just so natural.
Just crazy what bs we've been told over the years.

We are cutting off bread from today. Snacks are difficult. Especially the days when there's no left overs from the night before. And one can only have so much boiled eggs for breakfast or lunch.

5 days without banting bread and down to 2 or 3 cups of coffee from 5, and I've lost 2kg.

Ixnayed the flax from the banting bread and it's now spot on yummy. Feels good to have a 'slice of toast' with pate a couple days a week and knowing that it's not evil :D

Because of my near-obese previous life, stepping on the scale on a Monday morning scares the hell out of me.

Managed to get myself on and I am still at 105kg. No matter how much low carb pigging out I do, I stay constant. Officially a year since starting LCHF and never felt better :)

I know this feeling! Every week I think to myself, I ate so much recently I must have picked up a few kilos... but I never do. :D

Best Suzelle video yet and Tim was awesome too. Teased him properly "wiff a jean pant and a koeksister"!

So.... Be honest.
When you reached your healthy goal. Every how many months do you cheat?

I have the flu. Everything tastes horrible. And sometimes you just need a comfort. I have not succumb yet. I struggled way to much to get over my sugar cravings.

So let me hear it. Or when are you more likely to cheat?

Avoid bakeries. That smell of nice , crisp bread is deadly for me.

Like the plague!
When mr Mila hits the the one third of the weight he has to shed mark, I'm going to kill a pizza. But that is still 9kgs away..

Also I know mess taste like shyte , have you seen the insane amounts of sugar in flu meds.

My wife and I have not been following the banting stuff 100% My wife tends to just make stuff up as each day comes, but it's working.

5 April I was 94.5kg. My first goal was 85kg which I hit day before yesterday. This morning was 85.2kg so just a little more and goal complete.
Next goal is 80kg where I aim to stick. If I drop anymore I will probably start to waste away.

I am doing a lot of cycling which is helping. Thu is a fast road ride in the last hour before dark. Try to get in 15 to 20km. Friday afternoon I head off at 14H00 and try for a 40km. Weekend I go trail riding and do any events that mag be happening (Magalies Monster was this last weekend).

Sat is cheat day. Every sat. Until this last sat, I have gone a bit nuts. This last sat was odd though. Just no urge for the junk. Stuck to a relatively healthy diet the whole day - by choice. I am enjoying this way of eating now.

As mentioned above, I feel great. Not tired in the afternoons and bounce out of bed 6 hours after closing the eyes. Also feeling a lot more alert generally. Not sure if it's the diet, or the cycling. Whatever it is, it's working out and I love them both.

Got to go clothes shopping soon. I don't have a single pair of trousers that fit anymore, and belt is useless.

I'm a big coffee fan. At home I'll drink filter coffee and at work, because it's whats availible, I'll drink Ricoffee. This morning, my eye caught the ingredients label on the Ricoffee. Now I knew there was a certain part Chicory in there, but I thought it was like 50% chicory and 50% coffee. Today I noticed there is 6.5 parts Chicory, 6.5 parts Dextrins, 5 parts coffee, 1 part maltose and 1 part dextrose.

Dextrins is a carbohydrate, that is apparently good for your gut flora. But the Maltose and Dextrose is kinds of sugar. Is that amounts going to be bad or good on banting?

I also googled and it seems that Ricoffe only have about 2.5mg/100ml caffeine, against normal coffee that's about 100mg/100ml. Disappointingly low in Ricoffee.

If you are a big Coffee fan then why are you drinking Ricoffee?

Give Jacobs a try - that stuff is awesome :D
