The Banting/LCHF Thread

Thanks Crawler,

I thought that optimum ketosis is 1.5 - 3 MMOL/L. What measurement does that gadget provide?
Found this

Between 0.5-1.5 mmol/L is light nutritional*ketosis. You'll be getting a good effect on your weight, but not optimal. Around 1.5 – 3 mmol/L is what's called optimal*ketosis*and is recommended for maximum weight loss.

So you are right, need to a for at least 1.5

So does that gadget give the results in mmol/l?

I don't get it. 3 days ago I was 75.5 and this morning 77.4. Almost 2kg up. How can my weight fluctuate that much?

Yes it gives that reading

Same scale? Same time of day?

Not sure either, could be water

Realized something else

Myfitnesspal shows total calories per day

But you need to get ratios right per meal as well, 70-80% fat per meal

If you eat only protein one meal this will kick you out of ketosis - most articles don't emphasize this

Was my lesson for the week...

Interesting, that probably happens to me a lot.
crawler, I went to dischem and they said they dont stock the machine, only the strips. Can ask your friend where else I can buy one?

To phrase some of the other keto'ers out there, don't get hung up on whether you are in ketosis or not, just always work towards it. It only takes 24hrs to fall into it.

MyFitnessPal can also track the macros

Ja, but I dont always want to fast for 24h to get back into it.

Also do you need to fast that long? what about 16 hours?

It's not about fasting tottally, just extremely low carbs. So for 24 hours ensure only meat and green veg.

Hmm, but not too much protein either otherwise that kicks you out. I had been in a 3 month stall, that is why I don't want to relive that.

ALso how much is too much protein that will kick you out of ketosis? ie If i have a piece of wors for dinner will that kick me out?

I seriously doubt it. Requires a lot of protein to have a similar effect and I don't think it will kick you out that quickly.

to quantify the "a lot of protein", How much is a lot?

300g steak? if you only ate the stake and nothing else?

I am also going today
Will let know if I come right

gees, that is scary to be out with just that. What if make a tuna salad and it just kicks you out!?
Only had it with mayo

Need to make sure protein fat ratio is 80/20, so I'm adding avo and mct oil now and check how it goes
