The best temperature for your workplace

Air-conditioning and heating was an unnecessary cost to business in the production side of my business. Some staff complained and even threatened to leave because it was either too hot or cold. They even brought labour inspectors one day but they could do nothing. Air-conditioning and heating at work is not some right, but a privilege. We did however, offer Air-conditioning and heating in the admin section in inclement weather only. A single office aircon unit costs about R1000 a month to heat a room in winter and to cool it off in summer. My prudent cost-saving measures saved me a small fortune over the years. It probably covered a foreign vacation for me and my family now and then.

The people preferring even colder tend to be overweight in my experience.

One of my boss's office is at like 15. Always forget bringing suit jacket for that...

18.5 degrees.

Perfect.

Not 18. Not 19. But 18.5? Would you notice it if it weren't? :p

OT, this thread reminds me of the struggle of open plan office I used to work in where the temps were usually > 24C. It was unbearable. I had the means at my desk to monitor it. It got up around 26.5C. Just cannot concentrate like that. The irony was that if I moved a few metres either way, the temps dropped to around 18-20C.

My current spot (new company) has its moments of polar freeze. It'll be an optimal 21-22C elsewhere, but my spot in the corner seems to love being mid-teens. Middle of summer, sweltering outside, and I sit in my nook with a long sleeve track top :o TBH, rather too cold than too hot.

Aircon set at 25 all year round, touching the remote will get you fired. This after countless fighting and arguing in the office between different races, men and woman. If you get cold bring a jacket, if you get hot take off your jacket. One of the favourites was actually sitting there with a jersey but then setting the AC down to 18 making everyone around you freez. More or less at the same time the office radio got set to Jacaranda and loudly playing your own music from your own device got banned. You may use headphones but if I can hear your headphones from a distance while they in your ears, you lose that privilege as wele. Same if someone talks to you while you have your headphones on and you can't hear them so don't respond, you lose the priviledge.
Couple of people was grumpy for a few weeks both about the AC and the radio, but oddly enough the last couple of months everyone has been happy with the arangements. There are even less people than before using headphones, guess it somehow war off.

Obviously the article refers to room temperature in general, while you guys are referring to the temperature set on the aircon.

The temperature on the aircon unit(we talking building havac types) represents the temp experienced in the room which I guess is room temp.

Unless u talking about the normal temp room gets to without external heat/cooling source.
