Regardless of what actually does happen if Linux became widely used on the desktop, one thing linux and other open source projects have demonstrated over and over is their vastly faster response times to security threats.virtually no restriction ? that's the problem - it is insecure.
Don't get me wrong, it's just that 90% of the world's 100 million or so PCs/laptops run Windows, which is why they are so targeted by hackers, phishers, viruses, bots, etc.
Once Linux machines are more widely used, then they are going to be openly prone to attacks.
