The Bitcoin Thread

So I am jumping in. I have read the last 40 pages or so here over the last few days. This is my new favourite reading thread. :)

I fear I have missed the big boat having waited for the 10k mark to hit. I want to start initially by buying and Hodling...but may also start to dabble in trades in dips and rises when I get more comfortable. Am I being foolish?

I have registered on Luno and am about to deposit into my wallet. Awaiting confirmation of Submitted documents though. 3 more days to wait.

One bit of advice I would like is the following
1) What wallets do you recommend besides Luno if I am only going to buy and hold?
2) Should I use a different wallet above or leave my BTC in Luno?
3) Should I wait to see if there is a dip/correction before buying?

I would really appreciate any opinions on the above.
Thanks

It's been over $10,000 on there since early this lunchtime.
That was the luno price bringing the rest of the worlds price up to a $10k average :p. I'm actually still a bit shocked to see lunos price is the highest on coinmarkcap.

Man this is a tough one. I put in another R5k today at 165 000k and now im regretting it. I dont have the answer but if I could go back a few hours I would not buy in but wait and see. Perhaps my hindsight might be useful to you but please dont take this as advice.

I'd wait a few days. If there's no correction and you buy at $10500 it's a lot better than buying now and it dips to $9000.

Also interested in 1 & 2. How do transaction fees come into play?

I do realise the risk is all mine to take, but I am also looking for opinions too. I appreciate the feedback. Thanks
I think I am going to wait and see how it reacts to the 10k barrier....there seems to be a little resistance today in the later part

This is my current thinking too. Actually hoping for a bit of a dip before it climbs again :)

1) If you're going to hold a substantial amount of crypto a hardware wallet is the way to go. Trezor and Ledger are the most popular AFAIK. Many people around here use other non-hardware wallets though.

2) If you're just going to hold long term there's no reason to keep bitcoins on an exchange. If the exchange gets hacked and the coins stolen you're out of luck. Personally I keep a bit on exchanges for trading and the rest on a Trezor.

3) IMO yes. Never FOMO, especially at an all time high. It could still go up obviously but if it doesn't you could be in for a very long ride down and it'll take a lot of discipline to not panic sell at a much lower price. However this is bitcoin so you'll probably be fine if you do buy now and wait it out.

Many thanks. This is making a lot of sense. Gives me time to get myself sorted as well.

1 & 2 Don't store large amounts of money on any exchange. A wallet is safer, because you control the private keys. There are loads, mycelium & jaxx are 2 examples I've used.

3. You can wait it out if you feel like it, it's hard to say. When u do pull the trigger rather buy on the Luno exchange where you can put in a bid, as apposed to the instant price. Instant trade is usually more inflated.

If you planning on trading in the future, keep enough money in the exchange. It's an expensive affair to move crypto around too much between wallets and exchanges. For ALTs trading I recommend Bittrex and Binance.

Luno, you're breaking my balls. 20hrs and still no reflection...meanwhile I'm eyeing that R160k floating up and down.

I swear if my deposit clears after it's shot up you owe me lunch.

There will be a dip, of course, there generally always is around 'round' numbers, its a whole psychological thing. As for 'massive 50% correction' bs going around, doubt its going to happen, just more fud fed by salty jellies still crying bubble and tulips at every turn(as well as the bch guys trying to take the btc name).

Well, I guess its kind of a self fulfilling prophesy, get enough to self off and well, yeah they will say, 'you see I was right, I sold and told everyone to sell cos I saw it coming and look it happened', well yeah, it happened cos everyone listened to the fud and sold, so obviously, it happened. I'm still looking at $15k on 11th December:D

They know if they clear your funds the markets will crash;)
